Based on an original character from one of my stories
Not a fandragon; but also a homage to things I love: Arcaea/SCP/Various Horror Games/Etc.
Named after a star in the Big Dipper constellation, Benetnasch
Young adult
He spawned inside a body of water, an aqueduct. It eerily reminded him of being in an egg despite being a young adult during his spawning. He came into life confused and unsure. He only knew that one name popped into his head upon his creation: Dorothy.
Eventually, more questions followed suit. But one question stood out the most:
Who am I and what is my purpose?
He didn't know his name. He had to leave the aqueduct and come up with a new name to call himself. It was by chance he named himself after a star -- he didn't know Dorothy was somewhat into stars, naming himself Nash just felt right.
He was a shadow like the other ones Dorothy unknowingly attracted. He was not a ghost despite being able to float and turn invisible, since he could feel his own flesh. He was also not a corpse, since he could feel the blood in his veins. So where was his original body?
Who cursed him with a life with no real purpose besides getting to know Dorothy?
...
Would this reality of his be "afterlife," then? Perhaps there was nothing after dying. Perhaps there was only a light at the end of the tunnel, assigning him to protect his one and only darling...
He hated this.
But don't get him wrong.
He loves Dorothy. He knows everything inside and out, and knows that she is more than what her bullies call her. He loves helping her find new friends and getting through tough days (even if it means a little bit murder but, er...). He could not imagine being with someone else. No one gave him this much motivation like she had.
The days he looked forward to with her kept him going. It kept him satisfied, somewhat. Not as much as having an actual meaning in life, but it nevertheless helped.
He had to be grateful. He liked it, didn't hate it that much.
He only hated whoever wished him to be here, if it actually was not Dorothy. Dorothy seemed just as confused about everything as he was, so it was unlikely she was the mastermind here. In fact, he looked into her mind and saw that she wished for his memories back to no avail.
He hated whoever took him away from everyone he loved in his past life. In fact, he hated how this practically took away the peaceful life Dorothy could have had.
He hated having to die only to find out the real afterlife was to be confused and scared. Emotions, that's what dragons called it. It was the curse of having lucidity and the ability to reason.
The haunting realization that nothing waited for him at the end except amnesia and one girl.
He wanted to find and destroy whoever caused his misery. He would tear down the entire world to find this person. In fact, it would even help answer Dorothy's question.
