And though Astrophel was indeed a god, he would leave offerings to the Earthshaker and worship his patron deity. He became used to petty arguments with other deities, creating little disasters just to watch the dragons below stumble and scream for help. It wasn’t a very fulfilling lifestyle, but it did no harm — at least, not to him. Sometimes, he created larger disasters, like rockslides.

The Earthshaker didn’t know — or didn’t care. This rockslide was just as all the others, slipping under his gaze. It was different, though. It claimed the lives of several dragons too small to escape the wreckage. Astrophel didn’t enjoy watching this, but the part he enjoyed even less was watching the little search parties attempt to recover bodies. This is where Astrophel made his fatal mistake. He had to admit that his eye had been caught on a mortal dragon, an Imperial attempting to move the wreckage aside. He watched this Imperial cradle the crushed body of a Veilspun in his palm. And Astrophel would never admit it, but he thinks that this is where he fell in love.

The Earthshaker didn’t notice the little catastrophes Astrophel had caused. But he did notice Astrophel’s affection towards this caring imperial. Mortals couldn’t reciprocate the type of affection gods could hold — that’s what Astrophel had been told. It didn’t matter if they could; mortals died. Gods did not. A little twist of Astrophel’s heart was enough that he was cast away. In return, Astrophel decided to forsake the Earthshaker and travel throughout the Windswept Plateau, in search of that Imperial.
