B A C K G R O U N D
Yelazidei (Ye-lah-zee-day) was young, not old enough to be considered an adult when he moved to the Oovalia clan. His former clan was that of the Nature Flight. The overgrown plants and flowers are all he remembers now—he does not recall many details about his parents besides the image of stars that glowed on his mother's body. Like his mother (from what he's heard), Yelazidei became more adventurous as he grew, often running or flying past his former clan’s bounds. At one point, when he was a teenager, he decided to further his explorations, traveling farther away from the clan than he had before. Of course, armed with nothing but some berries and a small amount of water, Yelazidei eventually got lost. He ate most of the berries in one sitting—he dropped the rest when the sound of a twig snapping frightened him one night. He stayed awake several nights before sleep deprivation finally made him pass out. He woke up in a bed of soft feathers and blankets prepared by Meerna, who had found him and brought him back to the clan’s home. She fed and took care of him until he was healthy and well rested. He could have left at that point—it was his choice, Meerna said—but he decided not to. He enjoyed spending time exploring the clan and meeting the wide variety of personalities that came with the other dragons. Meerna practically adopted him as her own, and her partners and their children quickly accepted him into the family. Yelazidei has found that he has a passion (and a talent) for sewing and making plushies. He became Meerna’s apprentice of sorts, learning her techniques, though not for the purpose of designing clothes. He also met Lasidel, who he soon saw as a brother. Oddly enough, just a couple weeks after the first time one of Lasidel’s creations came to life, a plushie that Yelazidei had just finished came alive as well. Lasidel and Yelazidei’s work areas are close to each other, and occasionally they let their creations play with each other. Like Lasidel, Yelazidei loves giving out plushies as a gift. Yelazidei’s mate is Zeliderenne. The start of their relationship was a surprising turn of events, since their first meeting went awkwardly due to Yelazidei's shyness and Zeliderenne’s quietness. Neither of them knew a relationship between them would develop until Threnador explained to Zeliderenne that she would not be alone for the rest of her life—after all, he had said, her mate was destined to be Yelazidei. The two Spirals, though they believed in Threnador’s ability, were still unsure if a relationship could actually develop until Yelazidei gave one of his lovingly crafted plushies to her for her birthday. Outside of the Oovalia clan, many dragons wouldn't be able to tell that they're in a relationship, since they don't speak to each other often. Members of the clan know better, though, judging by the small gestures and gifts the Spirals give to each other. |
