Everwanderer was never given a name. Of course, not officially. Coming from a family of high status, she was to be given a name of power. She and her siblings were to be respected and held in the highest honour a dragon could be given. A long, long line of authority, prestige, and wealth, she had her whole life in front of her before her egg even cracked. The three eggs, sitting peacefully in their nest, unaware that they will be some of the most powerful dragons in The Viridian Labyrinth.

However, that was not to last. On the day of their scheduled hatching, one by one, they all started to crack. Claws and beaks poked out of cream coloured shells, chirps and yips could be heard from the emerald coloured treetops to the dark oak roots. Deep green eyes opened from the egg's cracks as more and more holes were created. It was a glorious day, until they saw Everwanderer.

A dark, beautiful coat of grey scales covered her body, and her eyes opened for her parents to see that she had indeed inherited her mother's eyes. However, she had more trouble than the others in breaking out of her shell. When she finally did, her parents could see that her wings were shrivelled, half as small as it was supposed to be, even at her hatchling size. Her siblings looked at her with curiosity, and her parents looked at her with disgust. She was not the leader her clan needed, she was not worthy of the title that she was destined to. To Everwanderer's parents, her broken wings were a sign of the Gladekeeper's scorn, her anathema to the hatchling's future.

And so they cast her out. As soon as she was able to use her four paws, she was taken to the edge of the abandoned Pox Consulate. Thick vines were lush, dangling lazily from the ruins of the building that had been in use for so long. Fully grown tree roots had lodged themselves deep within the ruins, taking and returning nutrients to the soil below. It was there the Plague dragons and Nature dragons had given up their armistice. It was there that Everwanderer was abandoned.

She wandered for years, alone and crippled. However, she made the best of it. She had met a small beast who had graced her with his presence; a small creature, no bigger than her foot. Yet, she loved him dearly, like the brother she never had. She had taken up singing, a bard for many taverns all across Sornieth; from the Collonades of Antiquity to Lanternlea Port, she travelled and sung for all that would hear her. In exchange, money was passed, housing was given, and food was cooked. A young dragon from the Magmablood Rebuke was even kind enough to build her a sort of crutch for her wings; although useless as she had never learned to fly when she was a hatchling, it was still quite the impressive feat, and she wore it with pride. Because of these many years, she was given the name Everwanderer, a fitting one to be fair. Soon, more and more small animals came to her as though she was a moving forest; eventually, mice nested under her wings and snakes housed themselves between her gills. It was quite comforting, having company throughout her long and arduous journey around the lands.

The only place that she dared not step inside was the heart of Sornieth itself; the Scarred Wasteland. Although she was never told the stories by her own parents, she was given enough information from those willing to trade for her songs. She knew about her own lineage, how she was the descendent of one of the many dragons who had kept the armitage between their flight and the Plague flight stable. And for that reason, she was terrified. It was only when she was traveling to Dragonhome from the Starfall Isles did she realise that she had made a turn too many, finding herself in the Abiding Boneyard instead. She was completely and utterly lost, as the harsh desert made it hard to find her bearings. The sun was setting, and she was in an all too unfamiliar place.

It was then that she found a blue dragon, no more than a quarter of her size, flying just east of her. Calling out, she ran to the fae dragon, where she was greeted with suspicion. However, after hearing her story and how she had become lost, the fae dragon took pity on her, leading her back to a lair full of other dragons. Large and small, from many different flights and many different regions, spoke as if they had grown together from hatchlings. Plague dragons laughed with Nature dragons, Water dragons drank with Fire dragons. Although her entire life she had grown to be fearful of the Scarred Wasteland and all the dragons that resided in it, she found herself feeling comforted as dragons greeted her with open arms, never giving her a second look at her crooked wings or shy composure. These dragons were all like her, in some sense; the only difference was, where they had been lost, they had found each other. She felt at peace; she found her Charge. She would wander no more.
