Aelius is an outgoing and upbeat dragon, always trying to lighten the mood or crack a joke. Deep down he struggles with insecurity and uncertainty, and masks these feelings behind his cheerful demeanor. He's liked well by his fellow clan mates due to his jokey, lighthearted attitude.

Aelius has no job within the clan. He was at one time a part of the hunting party, but his goofing off lead to his dismissal from the party. Now he spends his time frequenting the market and wasting time in the town center.

He was not born within the clan, and harbors deep and complex emotions about his past. These feelings make his social life harder now, as he struggles to open up and form genuine relationships.

Aelius was raised within the clan, having been discovered nearby the lair when he was a hatchling. Unlike many dragons who were brought into the clan as hatchlings, Aelius has memories of his previous clan - and remembers clearly being abandoned by his family. He doesn't often talk about his life before the Coterie found him, as it's painful for him to think about.

He hides his pain and self doubt behind humor, thinking that as long as he's funny then the dragons of his new clan won't ever want to abandon him the way his native clan had. Because he's always putting on a front, he finds he doesn't often form close relationships with the others - they all like him, but none of them really know him. If he'd allow himself to open up more, he'd find plenty of dragons willing to be his friends - but it's a struggle for him to let anyone too close. However, he wants to be better at forming relationships.

Notably, Ruby appears to have taken a particular liking to him, and she sees him as a genuine friend. He likes her, too, but knows he hasn't opened up to her, which makes him feel guilty for being unable to open up to her even though she's opened up to him. In a perfect world he'd be able to be as open with her as she's been with him, but in reality he just feels like he's being cruel in his clumsy attempts to make friends.

He's known to be a goofy, somewhat unintelligent dragon. While it's true that he's not the smartest in the clan, often others underestimate him. He's not the best fighter, but his physical skills weren't why he was removed from the hunting party - it was actually because he didn't take things seriously.

He enjoys spending his time in the market of traveling merchants which is hosted near the clan's main lair, though he rarely has treasure to spend on any of the goods. When he's not window shopping in the market, he's hanging around near the lair's center, chatting with whomever passes by. He doesn't like to venture too far from the most populated parts of the lair, as the outskirts are too empty and the loneliness and isolation bothers him.
