Biography

- from the northern coast of the annex, daughter of a virulent princess
- she's incredibly fishy from that dead tidelord void magic radiation in the Sea

- her family was among the few clans not displaced by the flamecaller exploding the great furnace during the war

- her mother was notorious for her skill handling the godless Sea, personally overseeing the harbor approach
- and she herself grew up in her mother's wake

- when her clan decided to sell their annex holdings and move to the fire-held labyrinth, she took the opportunity to contact her grandfather and try to move to virulent
- ives loves his small hoard of murder grand/daughters he's so into this
- she's a sea monster they have a privateering navy do the math

- a victim of the flamecaller's odd gift attempts, she was granted a ship when she found out she was moving
- she did not. want to be a captain. this was thrust upon her

- uhhh insight to the life of a Seaside fire highborn
- grew up in what was once a water city, digging through lost treasures in abandoned cities offshore

- was really really into hippocampi racing, and while the virulentian bay is more sheltered than most of the outer sea, their hippocampus stock is almost exclusively drafts for use hauling ships
- and kelpies don't go in the ocean really
- so no water racing for her

- mildly uncomfortable out of the water, especially when trying to do physical stuff, so she's not into dragonform sports or cavalry

- LET'S TALK ABOUT NAVAL ARCHITECTURE
- listen. I really like ships okay
- I should probably talk about this in one of my shipbuilder's bios but they're prewar trained and the war had Massive Implications

- okay so in an environment with dragons, magic, and no transatlantic equivalent, this is going to have impact on ship design
- half the reason I have sorneith in the southern hemisphere but the shrieking wilds up on the equator is so they HAVE a reason to cross open ocean
- otherwise we'd just have a bunch of roman type ships that don't leave sight of shore

- wood is limited and thus expensive, with the starwood and Iceland taigas being claimed by noble families and the wilds and wood super burnt down
- the great cedar forest being flagged mostly for navy use is why the light fleet is so big. its easiest for them to build ships
- fire builders have to import wood from colonies in the labyrinth to build with
- and also more local iron and steel

- wooden ships are not obsolete because
a) I refuse to believe that dragons understand cavitation.
b) why throw away whole ship when you can just enchant them. carve one (1) rune onto the cannonball and it's fine
c) these iron ships are death traps

- look me in the eyes. I love auxiliary sails so much
- there is no way fire dragons had a source of coal until post war seizing parts of the wood bogs
- and even still. that's so expensive and also takes up soooooo much space that could be cargo instead
- just use magic
- get a dude to stand in the boiler and blast spells

- I like paddle wheel steamers but I feel like the wheel is too easily targeted and damaged by dragons on the wing and spells and cannonballs

- ouuugh I gotta pick out reference ships for the whole navy
