Kestrel first came to the Scriptorium alongside his partner, Iggy. He never had a particular interest in arcane knowledge, but he possesses a sharp mind, and is often asked after by Iggy and other researchers seeking second opinions. His own interests lie more in domestic life, content to keep after his garden and write little poems about the various things growing and living in it (he is too shy to share them).

He had befriended Magdalena while she still lived under the Scriptorium's wing. He viewed her as a kindred soul and felt a fatherly instinct to care for the downtrodden Fae. She confided in him that she felt scrutinized and abused by the scientists at the Scriptorium trying to research her multi-elemental powers, and Kestrel promised he would stick up for her... however he failed to make a difference in her time of need, leading to her departure from the Scriptorium entirely.

After that, Kestrel changed considerably. He, of course, blames himself for letting Maggie down, and unfortunately the hectic alchemist Iggy is too caught up in their own plethora of experiments to offer any solace to him. The heartbreak has hardened him. Nowadays, he behaves curtly and cold towards all others, and is usually seen alone at the training grounds, thinking about all he could have and should have done better back then.
