After a near-fatal encounter with the Shade, Melusine (Mel-oo-zeen) bears a curse for eternity. Her scales darken with its progression as time goes on. Darkness invades her mind. Without interference, Melusine would have become as predatory and aggressive as the Shade long ago.

Luna, Skenefra, and Kestrel are the only ones who can and are allowed to regulate Melusine’s curse. Their magic does not completely erase all of the effects, but it does prevent it from fully taking over Melusine’s body. The more the curse has progressed, the more pain Melusine feels when undergoing the regulatory process. Due to this, Oovalia’s leaders and the magic users agree that a schedule must be followed strictly for the sake of Melusine’s comfort. Melusine’s curse undergoes regulation on a weekly basis.

Not wanting anyone else to go through what she has gone through, Melusine does whatever she can to help protect others from it and spread awareness about it. As of now, she primarily helps Astrinelu with research on the Shade and pinpointing its potential locations. The only thing Melusine cannot do is fight, as the curse keeps her physically weak.
