Theme
When she was born they did not call her hope, for it would not do, they said, for a child to grow up a symbol. Even so, she felt the weight of the word hanging in the spaces around their words. Always she was pale and sickly, a child made for wind and sunshine and joyful noise in a somber, serious place. Still, they did their best for her, raising her as well as they could so even if they were few, she was never alone, bringing her flowers from above ground, mixing paints to turn her sleeping chamber vibrant and bright. And she did her best for them, colored in their silence with smiles and chatter, became a steady cheerful child, grew to love them dearly.

But still, she feels the weight of the word, curled under her skin like a fever. Some days she's paralyzed with it, rising around her limbs like a forest fire, and she knows if she so much as moves everything will go up in flames. Some days, better days, she can put it out of her mind, but even then hangs smoky around her head, tendrils stinging at her eyes at every tiny mistake. Due to this, she has sworn off battling and mostly spends her days with her familiar in the woods above ground.

After Oleander's betrayal of Fenrir and the dissolution of the mafia, Himari escaped. It was not easy, due to her sickness, but she managed to find a hideout in the valley caverns. She only maintains contact with Ganymede, for fear of being tracked by her sister.

Himari is the adopted daughter of Fenrir alongside her sister Obsidian. She is a gentle soul unlike Obsidian, who is conniving and heartless. However, her kindness comes at a price, for she loved the world so much that she is willing to turn a blind eye to her sister's sins and stand by her, even if it means she has to live with the burden of knowing what Obsidian has done.

Perhaps she would have lived a much brighter life outside of the Mafia, perhaps she wouldn't be as frail and sickly as she is now, but a flower which bloomed in the darkness would only ever be safe in the darkness, never to be touched by light. That is not to say she is unhappy, the members of the Mafia all treat her with respect and kindness and she loves them dearly in return.

She was once an arena battler, nothing more than an orphan forced into gladiatorial combat. After a near-death encounter with a dryad, however, she had been gravely wounded and forced to bind with a parasitic plant in order to save her life. This severely limited her physical ability and she can no longer travel long distances or do vigorous physical activity. Fenrir had adopted her after her accident, though she loves her family, she feels uneasy about the work he and her sister carry out.

(No Matter What, Lifeless Prince) by SilverWhiteRaven #306014

Princess Himari was doing as she has always done, sitting with her beloved familiar in the soft grasses of the forest above her home. She was always happily to strike up a conversation with any who passed by or came to check on her. She never goes too far, her body without the strength to travel more than a short distance. However, she was happy and did not mind what all she could not do.

But today, she was caught in thought, something strange for the past several suns bothering her. Her sister Obsidian, Heir to the control of the Mafia and symbolic Queen of Ice, had been acting out of ordinary.

True, her sister was cool, ruthless, and worthy of fearful respect, but there was always something that changed in time, and eventually showed.

Recently whenever Himari dined with her sister, there was little to no talk of her mate, Mirage. When he had come, he made a change in Obsidian, something deep within. But now it was like whatever he had melted was growing back at an unreal rate. It worried the princess, but she tried her best to not let it bother her.

Before Himari returned to her chambers below ground, she made the decision to visit in on her sister. It would tire her, she knew, but she felt the need to check on her for once, and not the other way around. When she gets near, she hears a strange strangled sound come from farther down the hall, and her curiosity grabs hold.

She did not know where the source of the sound had come from, the echoing of the halls warping the truth. She decides that first, before deciding to go investigate the sound, she would see her sister. She goes to the door, neglecting to knock as she pushes the door open.

"Obsidian, I-" Her words catch in her throat, and her eyes go wide at the sight before her, unbelieving.

Her sister stood tall and dark over the bleeding body of Mirage. His blood seeped from the Ice Queen's fangs and talons, soaking the crystal spikes along her tail.

Himari stood there, frozen with fright. Her sister turns, her eyes looking into her sister's, burning of frozen ice.

"Leave me."

Princess Himari turns and runs, denial and fear grabbing hold of her heart and beating it in stride. A few of her adornations fall loose to the floor, but she does not stop to retrieve them. Her body hurts, lungs burning, but still, she will not slow, until finally, she is within her own room, closing it tight.

She collapses onto the cushions of her bed, breathing painfully. The scene of her sister and her fallen mate burns in her sight. She does not understand, she can't. She thought there was love there, what had happened to cause such a slaughter?

Time passes, and Himari stays within her rooms. She cannot stop thinking of it, except for few moments when she was gratefully distracted. Her sister did not visit nor call for her, but Himari knew that eventually, she would have to face her.

So she made her decision. She did not know if she would come to regret it and wish to undo it, but it had to be done, or she never would be able to leave or face the Heir again.

Himari goes to her sister. Her room was clean, no body or trace of blood to be found. The clothing that Obsidian had worn that day were nowhere to be seen.

"Obsidian," she says quietly, gently taking her sister's attention.

"Yes, sister?"

Himari's skin shivers. It was like the incident had never happened with her sister. Like her mate was never there, nor existed to have been killed in the first place.

She breathes in deeply, holding herself upright. "...I hope you are well. See you at tonight's meal, yes?"

Her sister simply nods before returning to what she had been doing, polishing a silver trinket. Princess Himari turns to go.

"Does this mean you have accepted what has passed?"

Himari stops at the words, staring forward. "...Yes, Obsidian. I... I will always stand by your side. ...No matter what."

With those last words, her decision is sealed, and she walks away from her sister's rooms and down the halls. Now, whatever happened, just as before and always, Himari will be there for the Queen of Ice.

No matter what.
