Biography

NOT ALL OF THESE LINEAGES MAY BE NUMBER CORRECTLY. Please check her Grandmother, Caroline’s bio, and add two generations to that number if needed. The only two I know for sure are correct are CotG and Sunset’s Legacy. The rest of the information, other than generation numbers, should be correct.

THIS YEAR’S QUOTES FROM MY BAND

“I went to a summer conference where all the great band minds get together at SeaWorld.” ~ Our band director, about a conference he attended; Band camp

“Do better.” ~ Our senior tuba player, giving a short speech to the band before our last Marching Band MPA; October 28, 2023

“Don’t plateau. Keeping getting better. Never stop growing.” ~ One of our senior percussionists, giving a short speech to the band before our last Marching Band MPA; October 28, 2023

A REFLECTION ON THIS, MY LAST, YEAR IN BAND: MARCHING SEASON

I’m gonna cry later. Band director made all the seniors give a little speech to the band before going to Marching Band MPAs per tradition. It really hit me that this is one of the last moments I’m going to share with everyone. I love my senior class, despite all the garbage that goes on. And same with the rest of the band. Despite all the times I wanted to quit because I felt like I couldn’t do it or I was just so fed up with people, I’m glad I didn’t. This is one of, if not the best, years I’ve seen since being here. We’ve come so much further this season than in any other past season I’ve been in. And we’re going to keep growing. I feel like I’ve slacked on this compared to last year, but two competitions in, we already broke 70. In past years, breaking 70 was an end goal. Band director says at the rate we’re going, we could very well make it to finals at state championships in two weeks. I’ll come back later with more updates. Until then, see ya!

The season ends on Saturday, when we go to championships. Band director almost made me cry after practice today, when he was talking about the most memorable show my freshman year. We didn’t have championships that year (due to some rather unfortunate events), so our competition was the championship for that year. There was one band that really stood out to him. He said that band went on the field and gave it their all, and literally left it all on the field. They performed that show like it was their last time ever, and every single one of them walked off smiling, and/or crying. He said that’s how we are going to perform Saturday in prelims.

Never thought I’d grow this attached to a group of some of the dumbest, funniest, craziest people I’ve ever met. But now, the fact that this chapter of my life is coming to a close, it really hit me how much I love them and will miss each and every one of them.

On our way to our last competition. Championships, hurray! We have to travel roughly 3 hours, and still have about an hour to go. We’re hoping we can squeeze enough Visual and GE points from this performance that we can make finals. We always do pretty good musically. They’re only taking the top 5 bands from our class. But no matter what, it’s going to be a great day and performance. We’re going to perform prelims like it’s our last performance, and leave it all on the field. Last run, best run!

Here’s hoping for a fantastic last voyage with the Flying Dutchman and it’s crew!

It’s been quite a few months since we went to Championships. Our trailer ran into some problems and was late arriving, but it came in time for us to be ready to perform. I got to march with the drum majors, captains, and other seniors for retreat and awards. I got my Four-Year Senior Award, a little medal. We came in 7th place in our class, and didn’t get to go to finals, but we weren’t last place. We all cried afterwards, and shared a big group hug. Some of the seniors I never thought I’d see cry were crying. Our band director even joined in the hug, and told us that the guy who wrote our music hugged him, which had never happened before. I cried for a good long while on the bus ride home.

A REFLECTION ON THIS, MY LAST, YEAR IN BAND: CONCERT SEASON

I asked the band director to nominate me for an honor band where I live, and I got accepted! I got to go to USF and perform as part of the Rebecca Phillips Wind Band for Festival of Winds. We played 5 songs for our final concert, on top of the two songs I played for the Chamber Ensemble concert! We did Greek Folk Songs by Francesco Cesarini, For Midnight by Michael Frazier, Urban Light by James David, On the Mall by Edwin Franko Goldman, and Symphonic Songs for Band – Mvt. III by Robert Russell Bennett. For Midnight was cool. It was commissioned by the school in honor of a staff member who had worked there for years, specifically for one of the ensembles to play at Festival of Winds. So, I got to play in the world premiere of a song! I really enjoyed my time there, and I wish I’d tried it sooner.

Shortly after I got back, we had our Winter Concert. The flutes joined the 3rd period concert band because they had literally 0 flutes. Other than that, it went about as normal.

Currently, we’re getting ready for our Concert MPAs in a few weeks. We got a band intern (as we like to call them), Mr. B. He’s pretty cool. I’m also working on college audition stuff. I’m auditioning at FSC in March! Sadly, they don’t have a marching band, but I get a huge merit scholarship if I commit to going to the school. Plus I applied for a smaller scholarship for education majors. Here’s hoping I’m a finalist for it! My birthday is tomorrow. I’m going to be an adult. I’ll be able to vote in the upcoming elections. Scary!!! I think that about sums up everything that’s happened since I last updated this, all the way back in the beginning of November. Stay classy!

Ahoy there! I’m back again. It’s officially MPA day! My last one. I have mixed emotions about it. On one hand, I’m kind of sad. It means that I’m almost done with band. Only two more performances after this. I’m going to miss all these idiots. I say that lovingly. On the other hand, however, I’m kinda glad I don’t have to do it anymore. MPAs are horribly rigged, and are completely unfair. They judge our entire growth and skill as musicians by a single moment in time. And that single moment might not even be our best performance. But enough of that. We are doing 3 songs, plus two sight readings, so 5 in total. Our prepared songs are Aces of The Air for our march, Dum Spiro Spero for our lyrical, and Simple Gifts Mvts. II and IV for our overture. Fun fact, dum spiro spero is Latin, and means while I breathe I hope. There’s a part in Aces of The Air that our band director decided to make one per part for the parts playing there. So guess who’s the one playing the flute part? Me, yay! Ah, the joys of being the only upper flute in class sometimes. Hopefully I don’t royally screw up. It’s perfectly fine if I do though. The band director won’t be getting our scores, or so he says. He told us that last year, but he lied and got the scores. I suppose I’ll have to come back later and provide an update on how I think we did. After this, I have three weeks to get ready for my college audition. That’s a story for another time though. Until next time!

I’m finally back again! It’s been about a week since we went to MPAs, and just like I said, Mr. Band Director lied to us, and got the scores. We got an overall superior for the second year in a row! We got all superiors, except one excellent. But still, pretty impressive, right? Especially considering we got one of our songs about 2 weeks before going. At this point, I’m still preparing for my music audition at FSC. The band director there reached out to me and informed me that I’m scheduled to audition at 11:20 on Saturday 3/23. I think we’re getting ready for our Prism Concert after we get back from Spring break. Live long and stay valid!

Hello again, lovelies! We got prism music! My class is probably doing some piece called American Riversongs. My section is doing Mr. Sandman. And all the woodwinds are doing Viva La Vida. It’s going to be a lot of fun. I have my music audition tomorrow, March 23rd, 2024, as well as a tour of the school. I’m looking forward to it, but I’m also really nervous.
