Through the forest, the light was mesmerizing, the trees were higher than was thought possible, and the air was sticky and balmy. It was difficult to walk on the slick, sticky ground. They are living concepts, lattices of convergent ideas, hidden inside the forest. They are thoughts given bodies, making them dangerous, erratic, and uncontrolled. Ideas inside the noosphere that slip outside the circle, and run rampant, and run amok.
The forest is clawing with those rogue memes, in its blind, bestial, unthinking way, and this is where Apophis died. He limped and crawled and bled out, dying in the forest, alone. The battle lines were drawn long before he was ever born, and he was simply caught up in them. His wounds were not his own, he could not will his way out of them, he was simply the means by which they were made manifest.

A corpse, animated, but only inside. The branches and veins grew over him, the roots of the trees sank into him and the earth closed over him. Apophis became part of the forest, a part of its way of being. The wild ideas comforted him, he became one with them.
