Biography

Battle Instructor

Born to the sea, and drowning at her first breath...

Roe's early childhood was the farthest thing from normal. Her mother, a pirate captain. Her father, a physical manifestation of the sea. As one might imagine, parental love and support was not something easily found in her life.

Her earliest memories are those of survival. Fighting, pillaging and plundering were all she knew. The only stability in her life was that of her twin brother, Dalafen. Without him, Roe suspects she would not have survived her childhood. It was he who, when things were at their worst, persuaded her to flee their mother’s band and make a new life elsewhere.

The journey away nearly proved fatal for Roe, when a peacock scorpion sting left her on the brink of death. By the skill of the clan healer, she managed to survive - but her fight was still far from over. The trauma of early life combined with a side effect of the scorpion’s poison made her volatile, prone to fighting at the slightest provocation. Though Dalafen often stopped her, he despaired that she would never learn to live amongst others.

Depressed and frustrated at her own lack of control, Roe sought a quiet place and found it in the clan library. There, she met its keeper, Prentice. He showed her no fear, but permitted her to visit as long and as often as she liked. His quiet purpose proved soothing for her, unlike anything she’d known before. When he learned that she could not even read, he took it upon himself to teach her, countering her frustrated tantrums with patience. Though it took months, she made progress, and gradually her violent tendencies subsided.

While she has more control now than before, Roe is still subject to lapses, making her unfit to patrol out in the wilds with her unpredictable nature. Instead, she serves as a trainer for the clan militia, where her fighting knowledge is put to good use.
