The heartbroken cowboy
Somewhere where the grassland rolls into the desert, when the sun just dips below the horizon, a whistle can be heard. It echoes off the hills, a haunting melody from nowhere. Local legend says that anyone who whistles back will be afflicted with a terrible loneliness, incurable and agonizing. This is Nicholas's curse.
Once upon a time, he was a normal cowboy. But now his eyes catch the green fires, his shadow haunts the prairies, and his beating heart makes the earth itself shiver. He spends his days pacing, both this world and the next, searching for the one thing that can cure him of his suffering. And now, he thinks he may have found it, as far out of reach she may be...
