One clear summer night, something strange and magical happened. There were two notable events that night: a meteor shower which fell into the Sea of a Thousand Currents, and an annual gathering of anglerfish dragons deep in the abyss. Anglerfish dragons were large, serpentine, and had a small bioluminescent bulb which hung in front of their faces. Living in the watery void was difficult, and their numbers were few. It had been hard for them lately to find prey, as their small bulbs didn't pierce the complete darkness well, and even finding each other was difficult. But then, in a burst of light, the anglerfish dragons' lives were changed forever...

When the 'shooting stars' struck the sea, they plunged down deep into the abyss where the anglerfish dragons were gathering. By the time the meteors got that deep, the rocks had cooled and yet still shone with a blazing light. Every meteor that hit an anglerfish dragon exploded a flash of light. Dragons that were night fishing on the surface remembered that night, as a huge mysterious flash lit up the sea. After the blinding light subsided, the anglerfish dragons had morphed into Starry Anglers.

This new species was covered with tiny stars on their scales that provided some light in the dark, but most astonishing of all, was their terrifically bright glowing tails. The tails were radiant and took the place of the forehead bulbs which had fallen off when the meteors hit. The tails shone like beacons and would attract much prey. The beautiful Starry Anglers with enhanced bioluminescence now had food aplenty and lived harmoniously from then on in the endless darkness of the sea.
