Syleus

His father had told him to flee. That Jubilee was a tyrant and that he'd be better off outside Glacies, and that his father would find him after his grandparents had been toppled. But Syleus refused. No, he had a different plan in mind, one that involved playing a long, subtle game. And it started with finding a partner. One that would be on equal footing with his grandparents. And so he began writing letters.

Unexpectedly, one of his letters reached the ever enigmatic kingdom of Blackwild, a place shrouded in mystery and secrets. Supposedly the queen wasn't even a dragon, but a spirit disguised as one, and had been ruling the ancient kingdom since its founding. She was called the witch queen after all, and the record went back centuries of the same supposed witch queen ruling. Paired with the fact no one outside the kingdom had ever seen said monarch only lended to the credibility of the rumors.

So imagine his surprise when a representative showed up in his parents' court, requesting to speak to him on behalf of the witch queen. He could tell they had been caught off guard, as had he, and the power rolling off the representative, who introduced herself as Nephele, was astounding. But once in a private conversation, he found Nephele personable, and easy to talk to. She never did mention what the queen wished to have her speak to him about, but it turned out to not matter. She left later that same day, and within the week, a marriage proposal was on his parents' desk between himself and the queen herself.

It took some, well, a lot of convincing that he wanted this for them to agree. But it was eventually signed and sent back with the ghostly bird that delivered it, and not but a few days later did Nephele and another dragon, InfernalGalaxy, arrive with the dowry, and to escort him to his new home. Syleus had no idea what to expect when they arrived, the queen was shrouded in so many whispers, but he quickly found one was most certainly true.

The witch queen was both terrible and magnificent in her appearance.

She introduced herself as Seraphim, and he never thought a name could be more accurate. He also learned that the title she held was passed down mother to daughter and that she was not the first witch, but the third. The magic the kingdom dabbled in, she explained, often made its residents long lived. This means often scholars were attracted as it meant there was more time to pursue their studies. It was no surprise that he soon began to mimic his people, studying magic, and earning the title of sorcerer king.

Step one was complete, now to see if his dear wife was open to a little bit of conquest…
