Ilona is the Light’s Chosen. She has been gifted it’s powers and wields it with the grace that only a born sun spirit can possess. She is more than a Queen to her people; she is the Priest Queen, a God Queen, given enough power that only the Light itself could strike her down. The court knew of a time when there was a different Queen, a time when Ilona was just another one of them, powerful, yes, but just another lady of the court. But just because they were there doesn’t mean that they remember it; Ilona shines too brightly for them to remember anything but her divinity.

They come grovelling just as much as the commoners, simpering as they beg for her blessing and for luck. Ilona sits above them all, draped in gold, and if they are lucky she will give them a nod. If they are unlucky, everyone will cower as her golden eyes darken and her skin starts to glow, her voice echoing through the courts bones. They will still be cowering when the light dims, confessing their love and devotion in broken whispers. Ilona is terrifying, with a spirit as untamed as her hair, but they do so adore her.
