Angus/Gus "Guts" Tanner
WIP - pardon the mess
Born, raised, and still currently lives in a small mountain town some four hours from the nearest big city, surrounded by high-altitude farms and untouched Colorado wilderness. His father Liam Tanner immigrated from Scotland to marry his mother Dana Swanson and start up his own 'family business' stateside--a butcher shop that also provided much-needed game processing services for the avid hunting community in the area.
--
A honeymoon baby, Angus was born two weeks past his due date, only thanks to medically-induced labor. He was a large baby too, which made carrying him difficult and delivering him outright deadly for his petite mother. Losing too much blood from a traditional birth, she died on the operating table during her emergency C-section, and this was nearly too much to bear for Liam.
His school district was comprised of several small towns' worth of kids from all over the county; bus rides came early and were at least two hours long, and they also came home much later in the day too. Being from such remote, sheltered areas also meant that prejudice of all kinds ran rampant in the impressionable minds of children surrounded by callous xenophobia of the adults who raised and taught them. Outsiders, outliers, anyone that fell victim to maliciously ignorant action would face it constantly here. Angus--earning the nickname "Guts" in his grade after a substitute teacher misread GUS T. on a class roster and it spread like wildfire--was a longtime punching bag for this type of assault.
--
Today, Guts is less of a hometown horror and more of a local legend. Rarely seen by others due to his near-inhuman size and features, he's turned into a bit of a hermit whose timid, reclusive nature has only strengthened in response to his soul's eternal bond with Carnonos. He's still friendly when approached or talked to, although he isn't fond of people only choosing to interact with him simply to make a spectacle of his freakish appearance, and will likely find a way to unpleasantly return the favor later. He is also quite attached to a mysterious new woman, Gina, that appeared in town sometime after his return from a long, unexplained hospital stay.
He runs his father's business now solely for contract services--slaughtering livestock, processing hunted game, and taxidermy. The shop itself remains used, however it is operational by appointment only and clients are expected to meet him there. With his extensive knowledge, lifelong experience, and enhanced traits provided by the nature spirit's curse, he remains known and greatly recommended for high-quality service in record time. Depending on the size of the animal and the service, appointments usually range from five to twenty minutes, longer if extensive precision work is needed.
His community, while unaware of the curse he carries, still holds a new respect for him--as if they instinctually recognize the path he walks to godhood and the way the natural world seems to thrive in his presence. People say that, if you stand close enough to him, it's as if the very air that surrounds him feels fresher and cleaner to breathe; always decorated with the pleasantly earthy aroma of cedarwood and peat moss.
I never wanted to hurt anyone.
