Hypnale hypnale - Hump-nosed Pit Viper
Tolerance is built with exposure.
| ♫ Double Vision - Foreigner |
Derek Edmonds
aka "Pit Viper"
WIP
Raised into a cult that harnessed the power of energy depletion through worshipping a powerful serpent god of famine and drought. In need of more assets for the will of the Great Desert Serpent, the cult's leader ordered a network of heists across many nearby hospitals to steal the sickliest babies they could find in hopes to raise them into a life knowing nothing else but servitude and loyalty to their barren lord. The fact they were searching specifically for the weak and underdeveloped in the nurseries they raided mattered--low or compromised energy levels allowed for the earliest possible window to prepare the babies' frail bodies for the pledging of their souls.
To be considered a true and permanent pledge, one must endure the extremely difficult process of a ritual that extracts their soul from their body and places it in another living being--in the case of the famine cult, snakes. The ritual itself requires initiates to deprive themselves of food, water, and sleep until their bodies' energy is nearly depleted; and on death's door, a priestess presents the snake meant to inherit their soul, allowing it to strike the initiate when their body is loosening its grip on their soul and about to die. If all goes well, the initiate rises again as they return to life, their body sustained by their soul's inability to pass on to the next life. They are given a new name, usually the name of the snake species their soul is bound to, but only a select few have taken this title of pledge as their first ever name.
His soul inherited by a pit viper hatchling at the age of three, that became the only name he knew--Pit Viper.
He is missing his right arm, and his emaciated body is littered with faded scars.
