Carousel of Nightmares


The Carnival is always ready to greet its guests, gates wide open and waiting. It goes by many names, depending on its location and what time you attend. There are the usual games and attractions, a few small thrill rides, booths selling food and drink, and the unusual performers and workers you would expect to see in a traveling show.

And then there's the Carousel at the very heart; the paths that are followed, no matter where you start, all seem to lead you to the delicately prancing dragon figures making their endless circles, inviting you to take a restful ride.

During the night, those who prefer the thrill of the dark and the slightly creepy ambiance amble their way through on their quest for something to actually scare their jaded selves. Everything around them seems almost humorously over-the-top frightening and they let down their guards at the obvious "safe" danger - to pay their fees in more than just the shiny coins that change hands. And if they take a ride on the Carousel, the operator is sometimes laughed at for "how hard he tries to scare"... but they may leave behind more than they can afford.

Melany and Melancholy are two sides of the same coin; both are dangerous, though only one looks it. The darkness in them feeds on the souls of their riders, as well as the souls of the poor dragons who were trapped on both sides of the sunrise and sunset and made into eternal conduits for the feasting.
