Biography

Legacy of Lore --> Gen8

The Noble House of Sleu (a/n: this is very, very sarcastic) is a legendary house in Kikai mythology. They were a lineage personally cursed by the Arcanist. Their matriarch was a disgraced Ice General named Sleu. At the time, all flights besides Arcane could only cultivate mediocre magic and it angered Sleu. One night, she left the house she shared with her mate and travelled to the Starfall Isles. There she slipped inside the Observatory and stole the source of all magic, known only as Warmth. From there, Sleu took the Warmth and offered parts of it to each Flight so that they too could enjoy the Arcane gift. Enraged, the Arcanist destroyed Warmth and in its place made Hai, Prime Deity of Sun. All magic was lost from the world and the Arcanist cursed Sleu and her descendants. Sleu lived out the rest of her days in fear and passed that paranoia onto her children. She would die at a ripe old age just before the Arcanist's Awakening.

Spiris was the youngest of Sleu's children and therefore the most foolish. She watched her mother and brothers wither under the Arcanist's curse. After her mother passed, Spiris believed the Arcanist had gotten his revenge on her family. She was the first to step outside and for a time, there was no consequence. Her life was relatively normal as she grew up. Despite living in a magicless world there was hope for Spiris. She met a young mirror and fell in love. The pair moved back into her family home and had their first clutch not long after. However, the Arcanist's curse would claim her on the first day of his Awakening. A great storm descended over the land and Spiris wanted to get a closer look at the true power of the Arcanist. As soon as her head left the doorway, a mighty rock struck her head and she was killed instantly. Devastated by the death of his mate, Kyros often turned his anger at his children, saying they were reason his beloved died.

And from Spiris, the Arcanist only got more cruel. Necolas was one of the first dragons born with the Cursed Eyes that brought plague to whoever looked at him. He struck down his own father and siblings when he first opened his eyes. Elders in the village took the hatchling in and covered his head with shawls and charms to keep his power hidden. Neco learned to get around without his sight and tried to be happy despite his curse. He met his mate at a young age and loved her completely. However, as the years went on, it became clear that the two were not safe. Each clutch they had rotted and died, breaking Neco's heart piece by piece. His mate was inconsolable and spent her days bent over a shrine, praying for a child. After many years, Neco lost his mind and was so desperate to give his mate what she longed for that he had an affair with another female named Azuri. He thought that since the other female didn't love him, the Arcanist would let her get pregnant and he could take the hatchlings to his mate. Neco died childless the following month. The Arcanist did grant a child to his beloved mate: the deity Hera. Hera learned of her father and did grant the other female a clutch. Despite not ever wanting a family, Azuri loved the hatchlings completely. She only told them about their father before she died.

Not much is known about Soleis. Many accounts cite her as a brash, often careless dragon who chased glory. She got a lot of that from her adoptive mother. Legend says that one day, she left her mate lonely one day to travel to a lonely river on the edge of Arcane territory. Soleis called upon Vayu and asked him for a quest in order to regain her family honor. Vayu, being a sly god, applauded her nobility and told her that all she had to do was bring him a rare gem from a mystical Arcane shrine in the Crystalline Reaches. In exchange, Soleis gave him an iron collar. The mirror went quickly into the jagged peaks and was never seen again. They say if you go hiking in the mountains, you can catch glimpses of a shadowy mirror watching from the caves, forever searching for her lost honor.

After losing his mother to the mountains, Bronto left his home in the Arcane territories and traveled towards the border with the Ice Flight. Although tensions were still high between them Bronto bought a small plot of land and became a farmer. He eventually married a soldier and the two lived happily in their small cottage. They were very close with all around them, becoming a pillar of the community. They had many children, all but one of which stayed on the farm. The only person Bronto ever quarreled with was a cranky old dragon who refused to pay what he owed the family after they helped him out. Eventually, this reached the old dragon's son who became enraged at Bronto for bullying his father. One night, the son snuck into Bronto's home and shed blood. From the family's demise arose a new deity called Yiling and the son became her general. Bronto's only surviving child would come home many weeks later to an empty house, the latest tragedy in the House of Sleu.

Leuko never forgot the tragedy his family befell. In fact, it drove him mad to the point he exacted revenge on the surviving members of the murderer's family. He ruined their crops and harassed them, making it certain his vengefulness was known. One day, one of the sons decided enough was enough and took Leuko to court before the Arcanist. Leuko was desperate and mistakingly tried bribing the Arcanist with coin. Needless to say, the deity Kairos did not sympathize with him and Leuko died in poverty, without a tongue or a friend to be seen. His mate, Sapphire, remained his only company.

Ashamed of her father, Ermaris stayed as far from home as possible. She spent her days traveling the vast countryside with her friends. One day, they discovered an odd forest outside the village, crawling with spirits and phantoms. All her companions shied away from the challenge but Erma went bravely in. Her way was marked by childish laughter. Nobody knows exactly what she heard in the mist-wrapped trees but when she emerged, she reported being constantly harassed by voices. Voices of elder dragons and hatchlings, her family, and the screams of her grandparents as Ahren slaughtered them. Even when she settled down with her mate, Erma couldn't escape. It got to the point where she sat down and stared into a wishing fountain, desperate to negotiate peace. The days rolled into weeks, months, then years. Vines constricted on Erma's legs and wings, rooting her to the spot. Not even her own family could get her to stop the nonsensical mumblings or tear the vegetation from her body. She remained there until she died. Some of the villagers report hearing Erma's frenzied whispers coming from the brackish water.

Ethoai simply wanted a quiet life. Her childhood was spent watching her mother waste away, reclaimed by the carnivorous flora which stole her sanity, and she vowed to let those painful memories drift away and bloat in the swampland's murky water. Wealth became a tool of escape. The majority of her life was spent hording every scrap of gold and gem she could get her claws on. Odd jobs and deals made behind closed doors opened a vast void satiated only by a metallic sheen. Eventually, she gained enough to leave the hovel her despondent father constructed beside the lake that claimed her mother's soul and opened a small inn along a well-known trading route. It was there Ethoai met and married a glass merchant. He was a kind soul who knew his mate's heart desired something much more precious than love, so he left her after their clutch was born. The absence barely registered. Ethoai sank deeper and deeper into her greed, consumed by covetousness. Her inn was open exclusively to those who could pay to have the door opened for them. One night during a bad storm, a dragon dressed in rags knocked on the inn's door and presented a single blue stone as payment. It was a unsightly thing, beaten and cracked under the ocean's strong current. Ethoai laughed. It confused her that this old geezer thought a rock made precious only through common superstition, had any worth. She slammed the door in his face. No sooner had she regaled the occurance to her pompous patrons that a bolt of lighting struck the inn and caused a massive fire. No dragon escaped alive.
