Biography
See, Finn's always been at home at sea. Specifically, he's perfectly at ease with a fishing rod in his hands and a bucket waiting to be filled with freshly caught fish, sitting back and waiting for something to nibble. Sometimes it'll only take minutes before something bites. Sometimes he has to sit and wait for hours on end before even getting the slightest of tugs on his fishing rod - and even then, it's not a guaranteed catch just yet.
He's busy whistling a sea shanty when his fishing rod jolts to life, signalling something on the other end. Crowing with delight, Finn grabs it and starts reeling the fish in, tugging this way and that, sometimes giving the line some slack just so it won't break. It's quite the feisty one, doesn't give him an easy time at all. In all his years of fishing, he's never quite landed something with swimming patterns this wild and erratic.
The reason for this soon becomes apparent when he finally manages to haul the thing out of the water, twisting and flopping frantically with the hook still embedded in its lip. At first glance it might almost pass for a fish, but once he's actually yanked it out of the water, it's very apparent that he's somehow fished up a young Undertide hatchling. Cursing, Finn picks him up and carefully detaches the fishhook from the little one's mouth, before holding it up to get a better look at it.
"Well, well, well," he mutters, squinting at the young dragon. "How'd you end up biting my hook, you little bugger? Haven't you ever been taught not to bite pointy metal things?"
In response, the hatchling shakes his head, still bleeding a little from where the hook had dug into the skin. Tutting, Finn resigns himself to quitting fishing for the day - he's got more pressing things to handle, now, like patching this poor youngster up. It's the least he can do, after all. Getting a squirmy, slippery Undertide hatchling to stay still proves to be quite the challenge, but Finn manages eventually.
With nowhere else to go - it's not like Finn can just throw him back into the sea - he's forced to take the little one in for the time being, until he can find someone else who can help him find a good home for the hatchling. Finn's no father, after all, and he's got no intention of caring for a hatchling for longer than necessary. Luckily, Gordon hears about his plight sooner or later, and comes to see the young one in person.
"You're telling me you somehow caught him like a fish?" |
Finn groans. "Aye, would you believe it? I'm telling ya, that's what happened. Now are ya gonna help me find him a home or what?" |
