Ask Qayin’s family, friends, and even acquaintances about him. No matter which station they have in his social circle, they can all say one thing for certain: he is an honest individual. Very honest. As a matter of fact, he is so honest that he ought to dial it down. Blunt to a fault, Qayin is the type to be truthful to both himself and to others, which is great when it comes to self-reflection. It is not so great when it comes to approaching other people, especially if they don’t appreciate his borderline brusque vernacular. It isn’t as though Qayin means to offend most people. If he doesn’t like someone, then yes, maybe he did mean to — just a little. Otherwise, he attempts to take the steps to be more tactful about it, but his mediocrity at reading other people with less obvious reactions can lead to an interpersonal disaster. Balancing honesty and tact is something he struggles at, despite his well-meaning intentions of helping his targets improve and become aware of their mistakes. What’s worse is that even with friends and family, he might slip up. No, Qayin does not care much about the neighbor from a block away. He can only be bothered to spare a few minutes to help them with a task or something menial, and after that, he will return to his routine without much reaction. Who cares? It’s troublesome to attempt to care about everything and everyone, so keep it to what’s actually involved in his own life. Yes, Qayin cares aplenty about the aforementioned people. This is when worry begins to fester in his mind, when he will try to take on some new personality trait or habit to see if that would help. More often than not, however, it is too “not him” to stay for long. Even with reassurances that his honesty is fine, he can’t quite forget the instances when he does go a little too far with his brief yet sharp comments, some of them accidentally jabbing at a matter that might not even be that big of a deal. Qayin's background for Sornieth has yet to be written. |
