Dragons in Bea's previous home of the Reedcleft Ascent didn't want Bea around their children once she contracted the Rot after a field trip to the Wasteland. She was shunned by all her peers, and at a loss for places to turn, she returned to the land where she caught the disease in the first place. In a fit of Rot-induced delirium, Bea came across Yoshiya and her then small group of traveling companions. Yoshiya felt sorry for this foreign dragon caught off guard by the dangers of the Wasteland, and with the help of her more healing-inclined companions, they stabilized Bea's condition and earned her gratitude. She found comfort in the thought that the Plaguebringer had accepted her while the Windsinger did nothing, and so she began to follow the Plaguebringer's ways.

While Bea's old clan was afraid of the Rot, everyone is a little rotten out here - and besides, literally everyone else in the clan is absolutely inept at handling hatchlings for more than an hour at a time. Someone's gotta do it. Margot has identified the Rose Rot as being not contagious, so that's a point towards Bea. Yet sometimes it seems like the Rot is affecting her in more ways than her chronic pain and increasing instability - sometime's she'll go into retreat for days on end, and somehow, nobody can ever find her until she chooses to make herself known.

Bea has a natural talent as a leader, and if it weren't for her condition, she could easily have become the leader of her old clan. Despite that, Bea is respected and held in fairly high regards amongst the Ilysiad clan, and she seems to fit in quite comfortably.
