bass. you haven't heard this style of music since your time in the lighting realm. the unmistakable pound of electronic music grows louder as you approach the entrance to an underground den. eventually, the music becomes recognizable patterns and then enjoyable ones as you get close. the opening to the den itself is carved out of the reddish stone and displays the clear gouge marks made by a tunneling ridgeback. wires of many colours twist out of the darkness and run to solar panels above, and scraps of fabric make a bright marker around a button tied to a pole.
tentatively you reach out and press the button, even as the whole pole is shaking with the pounding music from inside. a loud tone, one even you can hear, interreupts the music, which cuts off mid-beat shortly after. your ears ring abrasively and you rub at them as you listen to near-frantic grind of claws on rock. moments later, a head emerges from the tunnel. a ridgeback, as predicted, with wide eyes and a patterned bandanna tied across his forehead.
yeah, what's up? he asks, rubbing a hand through the mess of wild dark curls held at bay by the headband. he seems to be wearing some sort of massive headphones around his neck, but the end of the cord isn't connected to anything, and instead is hanging loose around his ankles. wait, you aren't -- who are you? i don't recognize you. visitor? do you have yoshiya's permission?
the influx of questions from this (frankly very tall) ridgeback catches you off guard, and you don't have time to formulate a proper answer before he snaps his fingers, a toothy grin breaking out on his face. oh, i got it! you're here to hear more of my new set! well, come in, come in, i was just warming up!
i- uh -- i just heard a bit, i was curious -- you start, but it's no use. the ridgeback has already turned and disappeared into the shadow of his den again, with a quick wave of his hand to beckon you in. a thick coat - strange in this desert heat - is tied around his waist, with what looks like battery packs stitched onto the outside, and cords running from there into unseen pockets. a strange boy, altogether, but you find yourself following him in regardless. anything could be better than the heat outside, you reason, following into the cool shadows and hearing the music start to wind up again.
