Aloof, silent, and cold, Devilbane strides forth, her eyes narrowed in disdain. She peers at her fellow dragons, assessing. Calculating. This is an Aberration who knows how to get what she wants. It would be folly to mistake her quiet nature for meekness. In reality, Devilbane feels that she is above most dragons. She doesn’t wish to converse with the rabble, so she uses her words sparingly. She can be quite manipulative, thanks to her uncanny ability to gather information from and about others. She utilizes dragons’ secrets against them whenever she can for greed, control, and even whimsy. Devilbane finds it amusing to toy with lesser creatures like puppets. She sees herself as an artist of sorts, painting the picture of her greatest desires. She spends most of her days lounging in her lair while clanmates wait on her claw and foot. She rarely distributes so much as a ‘thank-you,’ let alone compensation for their efforts. She is a true tyrant– the sneaky, soundless type. She has all the qualities of an excellent assassin without the motivation or need to get her hands dirty. This makes her more dangerous than any killer.

Devilbane adores shiny things. She collects jewelry and fine gems, organizing them by type, shade, and rarity. Or, rather, she has another dragon do the organizing for her while she looks on lazily, occasionally barking orders. Her favorite piece is an immaculate life-sized gold statue of herself, carved by the finest artisans in Sornieth. It was a wedding gift from her husband, Victory. He told her that she was worth millions times more than the extravagant carving, but that he hoped it would suffice. She was pleased, expecting nothing less from her doting life partner. She has the statue polished fifty-five times per day. If, Plaguebringer forbid, she were to find a single smudge on the expensive piece, nobody would be safe from her wrath. Devilbane has quite the temper. When she lashes out, she does so with immense venom, terrifying all who cross her path. She is not a patient dragon. She’s been known to throw ancient collectible speartips at anyone who causes her frustration. It seems this Aberration lives up to her name, causing consternation for even the most tolerant of dragons. No one would dare call her on her willfulness, lest they wish to have their darkest secrets unleashed upon the world.

She had her sights set on Victory long before he knew she even existed. She’d always watch him parading through the streets, greeting his thralls with a frigid smile. From the way he carried himself, she knew he would be the perfect partner. She hatched a plan to place herself in his eye line that fateful day, drawing him in by feigning disinterest. She knew dragons like him. They enjoyed a good chase. Devilbane has always known that she was destined for greatness. Acquiring Victory as a husband would facilitate such a destiny. The chase was a means to an end. She was delighted, however, to discover how easy it was to love her husband. The two of them are very similar– two identical thorn-covered roses in a garden of icy tranquility. They have similar ambitions, similar desires, and similar feelings of innate superiority. Devilbane knows her partnership with Victory will last a lifetime. She has found someone to stay in step with her as she forges a path towards eternal bliss. He’s the only one she deigns to speak to on a regular basis because she actually appreciates their conversations. This is rare for Devilbane, who prefers looking on in judgment to interjecting opinions of her own.

It’s hard to say if Devilbane is happy. It’s not clear whether or not she experiences happiness at all. She experiences wants, and in turn satisfaction when those wants are fulfilled. Happiness, however, is an emotion often associated with an empathetic heart. Ambitions stack ever higher for this dragon. She feels she might never be fully content. There’s always something to achieve– some pillar of success she has yet to reach. Her desire to climb, climb, climb, erases many of her other deeper emotions. She’d rather not feel too deeply because feelings lead to weakness, and weakness leads to destruction. Her stony exterior is armor, protecting her from the evils of the world. Instead of finding ways to dismantle those evils, Devilbane would rather become part of them. Then she can use their power for her own devices.

Power is the source of success. If she intends to live the life of her darkest desires, she must acquire it in droves. This often involves stepping on any dragon who gets in her way. Devilbane makes many enemies, but none of them are brave enough to face her. She uses tactics of intimidation to ensure that anyone who might oppose her stays in line. She runs a tight ship with Victory at her side. She is the wrath to his pride, the knife to his ax. While he’s a weapon of strength, she is one of finesse. She is sharp, quick, and effective. Devilbane is a formidable opponent. Instead of outright confrontation, her methods involve subterfuge and subversion. This is what makes her as fearsome and dangerous as her partner.
