Mirach // Beta Andromedae - Red Giant

Mirach is a spectral standard star for its class M0 III and serves as an anchor point for the classification of other stars.

It has been called the brightest star in the Andromeda constallation - Alpha Andromedae, also known as Alphteratz is a close binary star system from which only one stellar spectrum can be observed - which gives almost the same values as Beta Andromedae. Depending on the source material one star or the other is listed as brighter - according to the duos Bayer designations, Mirach takes second place here.

Behind Mirach from Earths point of view hides a relatively bright dwarf galaxy nicknamed Mirach's Ghost. It is notoriously difficult to photograph or observe through the stars bright light.
