Asteraoth is one of the newer and younger members of the commune. He's bold, headstrong, and really thinks he knows everything (but is very much not wise beyond his years). Like his parents before him, he's part of the ancient order of Seekers. Unlike his parents however, he doesn't take his job all that seriously. Sure, the shade is around- but it's in everything. As far as he's concerned, there's no fixing it at this point, it's just the makeup of the world they now live in. However, he chooses not to share these opinions, one of his few well-informed ideas. He loves his job as the messenger, enjoying every opportunity to explore the domains outside of the Viridian Labyrinth. Though his flightlessness can make it challenging, he loves a good challenge. While he's a bit loud and more than a bit full of himself, he's an enjoyable presence to be around and doesn't share the serious disposition of his mate Ophania. He's even made fast friends with a few of the other young dragons in the commune, and when he's between jobs you might find him gossiping or roughhousing with them. He left his birth clan mostly to escape the stifling authority of his parents and their expectations. While they're younger than Bertrada, his parents are strict in their belief in the order and the Icewarden (despite the fact they weren't even Iceborn!) He left on his "search for the shade" many moons ago and has no intention of returning. He's found a home, a family, and a job that actually feels worth doing. Why would he go back to his parents, who take everything deadly seriously and think anything that brings joy is a waste of time? His den is decorated, he collects things, and despite occasionally reporting to the order for the sake of keeping the peace, by all accounts he lives a very modern life. When not running a message or spending time with his mate or his friends (Ankaa and Haeleta), you can find him having a heated debate with his familiar, decorating his den, or very rarely, you'll maybe spot him silently keeping Bertrada Company. They have a sort of bond- Bettrada is happy to see a young Galoer enjoying life, not focused solely on their duty to the order, and Asteraoth feels a very deep sense of sorrow and respect for Bertrada and her choice not to take an order. Sorrow for the way the other Gaolers treat her, and respect for the fact she was brave enough to do what he could not. |
