Hymn

It was any other beautiful spring day. Hymn had left her music students and was off to visit her husband, Kodiak who was escorting a visiting Father from another clan that was passing through. Something about a Beast? When she caught up to them, they were lounging within the Sunbeam Tavern, talking low amongst themselves over some tea. She took it upon herself to order some meals and then joined the men.

She nuzzled her husband before properly introducing herself to the visiting Father; Father Mimir and placing their plates in front of them. Hymn figured that they must have talked all day and not even think about eating. They were discussing the Beast still. Father was searching for it or was hoping to scare it off and was giving Kodiak warnings. Hymn worried for her husband, a night guard for the clan and she didn't want him to go out with this Beast wondering around. She knows that Kodiak has been searching for his father, that's how he ended up within the Billowing Clouds clan, how they met. She's worried that, that's how she'll lose him. Father Mimir's eyes bore into her when he bid her a good and safe evening before shaking Kodiak's hand and taking his leave.

Hymn and Kodiak left hand in hand, but when they got to their front door, Kodiak escorted her in and was about to head to his night shift duty. She begged him to stay, just for the night. He smiled and kissed her, reassuring her that everything will be alright, but something didn't rest with her soul as she watching him leave within the twilight.

The night was dark and eerily silent but around the witching hour, howls echoed through the clan's village. It was unnatural and sent shivers down her spine. She clutched her locket that Kodiak gave her during their courting for dear life and prayed for his safe return. That is until the howls turned even more violent and screams echoed. One she thought sounded like Kodiak and against her better judgement, she ran out of the safety of her home to find her husband and bring him home.

That was her hope. Doesn't mean it would come true...

She came upon the most violent scene she had ever witnessed in her entire life. Blood splattered the cobblestone streets, pieces of tattered clothing scattered everywhere, and her heart stopped seeing the fallen form of her husband shadowed by the streetlight blocked by moths. She ran to him and tried to see where he was hurt and tried her best to help him. That is, until he thrashed and threw her a few feet away from him. His eyes were not his own anymore, darkened around the edges, large canines protruding from his mouth. He was in pain, but she wasn't sure what to do to help. He screamed as his form seemed to change before her eyes. A large white beast stood in his place and they locked eyes. She screamed and closed her eyes, waiting for pain but nothing happened. When she opened her eyes, Father Mimir was there in front of her. He turned to her with saddened eyes,

"Your life will forever be changed."

Morning rose like every other day. Mourners cried for their lose, Hymn sat in shock while Father Mimir handed her a warm tea. He explained that against his warnings, Kodiak had encountered the Beast he was after and now is one of the newly formed Beasts. He is still Kodiak, but he's changed and it'll take time for him to come to terms. Kodiak had fled in shame and Father Mimir told her that he's going to find him and bring him to the Gemini Clan; where he works to help Kodiak feel normal again. He offered Hymn to join him so that she could be with her husband, who he believes needs her now more than ever.

She was still shaken from the night before but agreed to join him.

It took them over a week to find, Kodiak. He looked so helpless and when he saw Hymn, he shrunk more into himself. His eyes and soul screamed hurt and to her surprise, he flinched when she placed a hand on his shoulder. Tears filled their eyes as she embraced him, her warm body along his cold back. Soft promises of being together were exchanged and she was able to get him to agree to follow Father Mimir to his home clan.

And there they have been living, within the Gemini Clan. It isn't unusual to find Hymn wandering the grounds with her large white Beast guardian especially along her travels. No harm ever comes to her and she lives happily with her husband. She wouldn't lie and say it wasn't hard learning how to live with this curse that threatens his quality of life, but now they have a supporting community who thrives upon the supernatural and beasts. It's their loving home now, as long as they are able to be together.
