rjHnOxB.png Observations, questions, hypothesis, methodology, results. Those were the pillars upon which a dragon’s dominance stood strong.

Tinuviel knew physical might was insignificant if one's thoughts were sharper than any claws a rival could bring to bear.

Through narrowed fuchsia eyes, she had observed with disdain as other members of her clan flitted about in pairs like fools, always eager to overlook each other's mistakes, weaknesses, and glaring faults. A dragon under the influence of infatuation had no defense against the object of their affections, desired no conquest of the other. It makes them weak.

Her hypothesis: That there could be no greater snare to enfeeble any foe than their own smitten heart.

After what seemed like a deity's age, the fruits of her meticulous note-taking and chart-making were merely a few rumors and scribbles in margins that mentioned a ruined library in the Hewn City. She had not faced any of the Lightweaver's champions herself, but had heard stories of their ability to dazzle an opponent and render them so enamored as to be momentarily helpless. Could it be possible that the library of legend in her research might hold the secret to this power? Could she improve upon it, weaving webs of infatuation empowered by the strength of Arcane discipline?

She had brought her work before the Research Council of the Tourmaline Archives, with a proposal to send an expedition - with her as the lead researcher, of course - into the ruins of the Hewn City. Under the cover of the perpetual shadows, her team would seek the library mentioned in the old scrolls, and winnow out the core theory and methodology of the Light's ability to emotionally disarm a target. With this information she- her team, of course she meant to say! - would develop a spell of their own, making the sorcerers of their clan unstoppable! All to whom they turned their attentions would be but clay in their claws, more students and research subjects to bolster the power of the mighty Arcanist!

PROPOSAL DENIED. Tinuviel wrung the courier's parchment between her foreclaws for the thousandth time.

Dangerous, the spidery pink rejection read.

...would threaten to disrupt the delicate balance decreed by the Eleven. If balance was so sacred, why the constant warring between the champions of the Elements?

Unthinkable. And wasn't that the point? Isn't that what it meant to be hatched under the sparkling magenta skies of the Astrolodome? To think of what no dragon has conceived of before?

...should live by the Arcanist's admonishment to be ever conscious of the possible repercussions of our curiosity. And yet, the Curious One had explored beyond the limits of what it had been thought dragonkind could discover many times. To not do so herself would be to dishonor His example. Especially with the brand of His favor glowing ever stronger across her eyes. Surely, that was a sign of His endorsement!

What did they know.

y0Qiufm.png Tinuviel spat on the cracked marble pavestones at the edge of the Hewn City, sending up a plume of dust. Shade take hatchlings' fae-tales of warning, and may the stars go dark on those incurious elders who would have stopped me.

And so she had set out on her own, a frail-boned scholar with no defense detail, no porters to carry delicate research equipment, not even any upstart student assistants to ask obnoxious questions and interrupt the flow of her study. She would complete the research and development herself, with none of their hesitation and cowardly “caution” to impede her. She would return with more applied knowledge than any sorcerer before her, and she would wield it before the old fools on the Council who denied her the resources she had requested. She would show them.

The pink gleam searing the corners of her vision would guide her work. It tinted more of her field of view every day. That meant she was getting closer to her goal; the arcane whispers around her said as much.

Romance, they called it. No. Strength. What could she possibly be misunderstanding?
