Fortune sends lucky vibes back to his home clan <3
He has adorned himself with as many spring-related items as he can (despite them clashing) to further encourage the right double spring comes to his family. Hedgehogs are lucky, right?
The lucky apparel didn't quite work, so he decided to make offerings to Derek.
He changed up his look to something more appropriate for making appeals to a deity.
Since he didn't know how long it'd take for Derek to work his blessings, Fortune picked up a book to help as well!
Though the only legible word of the title is 'Eldritch' and his clan mates think it's a bit... fishy? Fortune hopes it'll help him focus on thinking Eldritch thoughts... whatever those might be?
Fortune admits that maybe he was focusing on the wrong kind of Eldritch. The book squirmed away after he finished reading it, but he has no recollection of its contents. It was kind of embarrassing having nothing to show for his efforts. Fortune felt like squirming away too, but the sight of his hedgehog encouraged him to keep trying. He WOULD find a way to bring his home clan some luck!
Before Fortune could come up with any new plans, a package arrived from his home clan. The letter with it announced the birth of TWO females with the sacred colors!
Fortune was overjoyed! Thinking it was probably due to Derek's blessing finally activating, he lit the candles that came with the letter and muttered another prayer to the deity. On the other hand it could have been the lucky hedgehog's doing, so he gave his little buddy some extra snacks just in case.
The package contained a cauldron and several chests. Fortune was momentarily puzzled by them before he realized his job wasn't finished: a male heir was needed. Maybe he was being encouraged to discover how to brew the mythical Potion of Prosperity? Rumor has it that anyone who drinks the potion will have their luck increased for a short amount of time.
Fortune popped open the chests thinking he'd find ingredients for potion brewing. Instead he found an odd variety of household items. "Am I meant to boil these in the pot?"
Suddenly the items sprang to life. The umbrella began to open and close rapidly; it's actions reminiscent of a jellyfish as it moved through the air. The teapot poured liquid from its spout and slid away on the the spill with the teacups. The newspaper and scissors somehow assembled themselves with a rock and ran off. The lantern lit itself and floated out of reach. The plant used its vines as legs to hoist the pot up and walk away. The sugar and spices didn't appear to do anything, but Fortune felt a sharp pain in his foot and saw the spices were right there. The unfortunate toys were tangled in their haste and just rattled in place.
Fortune eyed the spices suspiciously before bending down to untangle the toys. "You're all familiars, right? I didn't know. I'd never boil a familiar; I'm not a monster." He tucked a tentacle behind his ear and waited for the chaos to calm down. Eventually he returned everyone to their chests except the plant.
Fortune set the plant on a shelf and addressed it. "Your name is Spring. Your job is to think spring thoughts, but a few eldritch thoughts are okay too." Did the rustling of leaves mean it understood? Spring didn't move from its spot either way.
With the room back in order, Fortune was left with the dilemma of having no ingredients. It was time to go gathering!
