With winter rolling in in a month, there was much to be done. Much to prepare, a great many food stocks to be properly arranged and stored. Someone had to go and knit the warm shawls that the members of Cenotaph would wear through the cold and dark months of the year. And someone…
Fall was the season Persephone would return to the Necropolis. It was not so much that she had to, but she simply liked its eternal twilight and usually pleasant people. That, and Dima would let her choose which of the many wandering souls in the Necropolis would gain life anew, infusing them with the potent magic of Dima’s bloodline to sustain them. He would then take them up to the surface world to find them homes that could help them come alive as full people.

Icarus is both the youngest of his nest and the youngest soul Persephone chose to reincarnate, placing him in his very first new life. He remembers being a sculptor and painter in his past life, mesmerized by the beauty of the birds he’d fly alongside of and the storms they crested. To him, there was even more beauty in a hurricane, in both the destruction it wrought and the clean slate it left behind. So what was an artist chasing apotheosis to do but find the eye of the storm and see the way the sun blazed through it? It wasn’t an action of hubris necessarily. Maybe his second chance at life will allow for a truly staggering one this time around.
