SELFiSH

This is a fandragon who has been replaced. I am keeping them for their sentimental value. Besides, it's hardly like I'm going to let a derg I spent so much time on go to waste.

Look to the stars, see them shine down. They may look to be shining on you, but what care would burning balls of gas from several thousand light years away have for you, any more than anyone else?
The grinning Spiral, skilled in existential crisis, circled around their friends from the same homeworld, perching on the shoulder of the dapperly-dressed Mirror. The paper that the messenger had brought read the local news: "The Aether Dragons have arrived in Sornieth!"
Then came the little Aether hatchling, humming perfectly the tune that for so long the Spiral had stumbled over. Upon inspection, the case was clear: the Spiral would be replaced.
And so, alienated from their own identity, they wandered out under the stars, ready to be lost. Even the bright eyes of the starscape seemed slanted away from them.
"Looking for something?" asked a Guardian, coat speckled with stars. "Fair, I suppose."
All that could be given was a solemn nod.
"My name's Cosmos, by the way. Take it from me, you'll find something. I hope to find something too."
The two glanced up, and as luck would have it, at that moment the sky framed the Spiral in colour, in an all-but-perfect fit. Chance, where it had failed to once, gave the Spiral a nice possible purpose.
Waving goodbye to the Guardian, they flew off, suggesting, "hey, could I be framed like that?"
So they were plucked as a mascot to the Southern Mill, framed like that on a perch, and messenger on behalf of a deity from beyond.
So look as you may at the stars, and lament not what you lost. The stars have no true plan. You will fit just as nicely into an alternative slot in the false grand plan. You can't be lost, after all, if you had no destination to begin with.
