Into the depths..
Upon entering the lair through its secret entrance a strange sight impedes you, a pulley mechanism slowly but surely ascends from the side of the cave walls that surround you in barren stone and the echoing of the rickety gears. The straining of the rope recoiling back into the spool indicates that this lair goes far deeper than you ever could imagine. As you admire the craftmanship of the machinery a faint light rises from below, getting stronger and stronger until it reveals a young glittering nocturne resting upon a basket full of gold. The youngling's eyes catch hold of you, in the time he takes to admire you the youngling stretches his sparkling wings for just a moment. Shining a bright light into your dark-adjusted eyes. "Why, welcome!" the nocturne yelps, with the cave responding in his wake. "You must be a traveler! Did you get one of our invitations? I know you're only probably here to join that booorring meeting but trust me when I say that it's really nice down here!" The nocturne's enthusiasm is somewhat irritable but charming to say the least, he can't seem to understand any sense of the word "Quiet" but they are only just a child, and you do want this integration into the dragon alliance, so you happily tolerate his screeching. "I could go on and on and on about how cool this place is! Buuuut I kinda wanna get back to counting all my shinies so I'll cut you some slack. The entrance to the sanctum is right ahead! Just keep moving down until you reach a pulley system like mine, specifically the one that's your size anyway..." Before you take one step into the entrance, he stops you once more. "Oh... and while you're here, I might as well pass you this little list of mine, its nothing special but if you ever have too much on your hands, I'd be glad to take it from you!" The pamphlet is scrawled on a thick papyrus and seems torn from the abhorrent calligraphy. Listing more than just treasure, is an assortment of junk and clutter both physical and corporeal, like a warm hug or compliments from a hummingbird. You can barely make out the draconic etched on the paper, but he thinks that you get the idea from your contorted expressions. And as slowly as he appeared, the eaglet immediately dropped down into the abyss with some of his hoard flying out and onto the ground. You don't want to argue with yourself on whether or not it's free for the taking, so you go on your merry way. |
