Tori's just trying her best man
Unfortunately born to World's Most Neglectful Father and the local Bone Woman, Tori never could quite figure out... why she was born.
What's she here for? What purpose is there in her even existing? Her father hardly gives her passing glances, her mother speaks some weird things about bones that she can't understand, and her siblings... well. Had the same issues, so nobody was in a great mood here.
Her half-siblings weren't much better, but at least Krokodil and Umnyama would try. Kroko's aloofness and Umnyama's overwhelming sense of (what seemed almost faked) optimism, however, just made Tori feel worse at times. So eventually she stopped seeking out help from either of them.
She tried, once, to reach out to Mafuta, but her attempt was met with a tired, disinterested glare that told her she wasn't wanted.
So she just stopped altogether.
Isolated herself, wouldn't interact with most other dragons in the Incomp. The annoying imperial kid, Korimi, tried once to befriend her, but Tori just shut him down walked away.
The only sibling she got along with was Ruine. Ruine could be bouncy and hyper too, but it never felt like he was lying to her. It never seemed like he watered down their shared issues nor would he shun her out. It was comforting.
When Ruine disappeared, it worried her. She knew other siblings of hers - and other dragons from the Incomp - had disappeared similarly, and never returned. What was she going to do if he never came back? Just be completely alone forever?
Then a dragon named Nebesa showed up. They said they found this place because of a dragon named Ruine. Tori jumped at the name, demanding to know where he was, and if he was okay.
...The answer was far more devastating than she would've liked.
Ruine was dead.
And soon after, another sibling, Shadescale, left the Incompetence.
So Tori broke. In a last ditch effort to do anything she could rationalize as meaningful, she turned to her mother, deciding to do her best to understand the weird bone nonsense that captivated her so badly. To her surprise, her mother was more than willing to teach her.
Even showing a motherly side that Tori didn't even know she had.
It was during this bone training that she met Honeylocust. and they are very wholesome and mean the world to me
