It was a foolish wish- poorly worded. Instead of the drake she pined after falling in love with her, Mist found that a brilliant, beautiful gem- his heart- was pulled from his chest and bound to her pearl. He lost the ability to feel at all, becoming a husk of who he once was. She could not return it to him, no matter what she tried.

Furious with herself for her impulsive, selfish wish, one might have expected Mist to try to warn others away from the cruel witch Echo. But on the contrary- she resolved that anyone so callous and selfish as she had once been deserved whatever punishment they got, and so now she guides these lost souls into the marsh, leading them to their doom.
