"I am no monarch, unsuited for a life of rule."

Those were the words she gave her mate the day she first ascended the mountain overlooking the wood. There was no monarchy in anything but name, but even still she could not abide such titles and the responsibilities they implied. At the time she had been the largest and fiercest of their clan. Only she could protect the ragtag gathering of dragons that had settled in her love's forest.

So, on that night and every night after, she flew to her mountain lair and kept a silent vigil.

It was during one of her nightly watches that her mate's enemy changed her form to that of a much smaller and less formidable one. Narius is adjusting to her new body in an attempt to properly guard her home once more.
