Afterlife Guide Aethers

What does it mean, to be a Guide to the Afterlife? To some, it is a duty, a calling, to see to the last rights of those beings that have passed on. For others, they find lost souls, ghosts, or spirits that wander the world, and help them find rest. And lastly, there is a small subset who's job is to deal with malevolent undead, and to see them ended.

An Afterlife Guide can be easily identified by their pale, skull like markings, dark bodies who's patterns mimic shifting mists or currents. Their bright wings are a stark contrast to their otherwise bleak forms, perhaps it is meant to be a reminder that life is a wondrous thing, despite the losses. Or maybe they mimic the unearthly hues of spirit lights. Who can say? The Guides aren't telling.

Lastly, they seem to lean heavily on the many cultural aspects of Butterflies and Moths as symbols of life, death, and rebirth. It is not uncommon to find them in the company of Miths. And often their lairs and work spaces are decorated with motifs and symbols of these insects.
