Merry despite his name is an absolutely ruthless and bordering evil individual, he's also pragmatic to a fault what makes him one of the most dangerous and successful pirates of the Arcane seas. He was cursed in one of his travels by a sea monster from the farther sea where the deities don't reing and creatures as old as them lurk, against all odds however Merry not only took control of the tainted magic that tried to bind and twist him, he turned it into a weapon to his use, so now he can easily dive into the turbulent waters without fear since he turns into a sea monster himself.

Funnily enough he has a very normal family and had a great childhood even, filled with love and affection and to this day he still keeps contact with all his siblings and family members, they think he's a sea merchant despite the rumors about his true "vocation", aside from his youngest sibling Rainfall (that used to be a pirate with him) he prefers to keep his family in the dark regarding what he truly does.

Unbeknownst to most he has an on and off romantic relationship with Duran a Skydancer scavenger he met on one of his trips to the port in the Fallen Stars clan. It was love at first sight, but sadly they rarely get to be together, Duran don't accept Merry's way of life and gets easily tired of his almost unbearable possessiveness. Despite his own feelings he respects the scavenger and keeps his distance when the other gets too overwhelmed of him, the fact that he knows for sure his beloved never got involved with anyone besides him after they met is one of the few things that keeps his desire to grab the Skydancer and chain him in his ship at bay (and those two friends of Duran, he can admit, at least to himself that they can be terrifying, the freak veilspun more than anything).
