Duran had a somewhat hard childhood, he never knew his mother and was left behind by his father early in life. He learned to survive by scavenging things to sell and hunting to eat. In his teen years he ended up in the Shifting Expanse working in the Lightning Farms and earned a substantial quantity of money which he used to augment himself in order to make his life easier.

He was never much talented in magic, but for one shadow technique that helped him a lot when scavenging - shadow space, where he can store things in his own shadow for safekeeping, he feels some of the weight, that's one of the reasons he decided to use augmentation tech in the first place, but even so is very handy for him since thieves only see what he's carrying outside of his shadow.

After his body modifications he started traveling Sornieth again, scavenging once more and now with a new interest in treasure hunting, he sometimes stay in Patera for awhile, being a nice town he found once in his younger years and having a few old friends that live there.

He's also often seen with Wilt and Uruk in his travels, the three of them know each other for a long time now and have a strange friendship, but can trust to watch each other's back without batting an eye.

Unbeknownst to most he has an on an off romance with Merry, a famous pirate of the Arcane seas and despite loving the Obelisk he can't agree with his way of life and his unhealthy jealousy. Despite not officially together, Duran never involves himself with others romantically (can't see himself with others without feeling like he's betraying the dragon he loves) and that seems to placate Merry at least some.
