Despite her curses, despite her clumsy ignorance, despite her mistakes... Kareme loved Astoria. And she loved the fact that he loved her. She was so used to someone being upset with the fact that she always seemed to drop things and trip and mess up. But Kareme wasn't like that. He listened to her, he believed her when she said that the ghosts were pranking her. He didn't brush her off as a lunatic or a klutz trying to make excuses. He hugged her and offered a steady hand, he walked with her in places she felt at risk. He didn't have powers, he couldn't do anything about the ghosts, but he could do something about her. He could stand by her side.

Kareme offered Astoria the bracelet he had made. "You probably won't like this... I tried my hand at bead-making, though," he explained, blushing when he realized just how unimpressive it was compared to the jewelry she already wore. She took it in her hands, looking at the beads with a mostly unreadable but clearly interested expression. "I think it's awesome," she breathed, smiling up at him. She wrapped it around her wrist, then buried him in a fluffy hug. He started to wonder if the blush on his face was going to be permanent, but he hugged her back, hiding his content smile in her mane. He'd done something to bring her joy. That made him happy.
