Biography

Z3i1A6V.png
MELISANDE
stoic huntress
matriarch
As the first crystal dragon, Melisande has been elevated to matriarch not by choice but by expectation. She doesn't really care for power but tries her best to manage the lair with a steady claw, despite protests from the less practical, research-hungry dragons below her. She's the undisputed leader of the lair - with little academic experience herself, she's responsible for keeping their territory safe and their larders full - a task harder than it sounds, when most residents think mice are better off alive for experiments than for food.

Melisande is somewhat taciturn, but her friends find her a steadfast and loyal companion. She stands by her beliefs and rules with a quiet determination that can sway even the most insistent guardian. Leading her clan's hunting party led to a serious hoarding problem with bird skulls, both strewn around her den and fashioned into trinkets strewn over her body on colorful strings and feathers.

On her many hunting trips into the evergreen forest scattered behind the sheer cliff faces that make up Light domains, Melisande noticed that, no matter how hard she tried, a certain pale cerdae never fell into her claws. After she noticed him waiting for her to fly away before feasting on whatever remained of her mid-hunting-trip snack, she flew back and offered the unusually carnivorous herbivore a place in her clan and sanctuary from more violent dragons than herself. Vikko accepted, and the two fell into a satisfactory, if macabre, companionship - Melisande usually lets him pick clean the skulls she's chosen to collect, which he happily does with a delicate beak to ensure their optimum condition. Other familiars shun the unusual companion, but as Vikko and his mistress are inseparable, it's never bothered him.
