Biography

19576.png
Helan
absent-minded intellectual
patriarch

Helan is an intelligent, quick-talking dragon with a unfortunate tendency to let his words carry him beyond his abilities. After a few too many powerful tirades about what he'd do to make the clan better, the dragons around him simply decided to declare him patriarch. He had no choice but to accept, and to this day, he remains in the position. Don't mistake him for an average politician, though - he doesn't enjoy power, and treats it as a serious responsibility, and a chance for him to see his research in action.

Helan is a historian by trade, with a specialty in ancient politics - he delights in studying the leadership structures of draconic and beast clans alike. However, he has no real experience as a leader, despite being able to name off hundreds of different governing structures - making his sudden appointment to patriarch bewildering and overwhelming. He is not Melisande's mate, but the two always got along due to their shared appreciation for a strong leader with input- but not vote - from those below, and he seems to be doing a good job.

Helan finds it hard to gain respect from his underlings, but they listen to his ideas more out of curiosity than true respect. Melisande is the one required to enforce any more controversial decisions, but even the clan's recent flight-hopping tendencies were smoothed out by Helan's impeccable bureaucratic skills, and his ability to talk down even the most insistent spiral.

He's a special dragon that heads a special clan. Even if he doesn't realize it, he's more dangerous than anyone would expect - if only because the dragons behind him can enforce his every word with tooth and claw, and carefully make sure the otherwise gentle Helan never knows. The clan would like to keep it that way.
