Ever since Cassius could remember, his childhood was one of war and fear. A dragon with no memory of those who created him, he found himself alone in the Abiding Boneyard. Abandoned, confused, and unsearched for, his time as a hatchling was one of survival as he struggled to defend himself against those who sought to turn him into their next meal.

For years, he longed for someone to take him in, to show him affection, to treat him as if he were a dragon instead of just another feral creature in the boneyard. However, those who travelled the boneyard always said they didn't need another mouth to feed as they were already weary from the journey. As if Cassius didn't understand. Loathing filled him as he gained a hatred for other dragons; in this land, this boneyard that the Plaguebringer had created, it was kill or be killed.

His wits kept him going as he learned how to survive in the harsh desert, finding meals and challenging every dragon he laid his eyes on for their plunder and rations. For years, he did this, until he became a whisper of danger among the Boneyard's travellers, another creature to be feared. He made his home in the rock at the very end of the Abiding Boneyard, bordering the Starfall Isles where the heat was more bearable but the clans scarce.

As Cassius aged, he adapted to his surroundings, becoming as harsh as the sand under him, as fatal as the hot air surrounding him, as ruthless as the limitless desert around him. Surviving turned to living, and living turned to thriving. Killing monsters and hunting beasts without mercy, he travelled across the boneyard until, as fate would have it, a fae dragon stumbled across him. Another traveller, one that would, of course, scoff and turn him away. No longer. He would no longer be the dragon to beg, to cry out, to be in longing. He would be the dragon that ruined, that took away, that conquered.

The fight that ensued was one that lasted for many days and many nights. He desired revenge on the dragons that had wronged him as a sinless hatchling. As the moon waxed and waned and hours became days, both dragons eventually began to tire, but he would not relent. His hatred for other dragons was like no other; his fury knew no bounds, not for those who had turned their back on him when he needed it most.

However, as the fae fought, he recognized that she was more than what he believed him to be. She was not like the others, for she had the same desperation in her eyes as he did. She fought purely for survival. As he slowly put this together, Cassius's battle hardened heart slowly softened. A begrudging respect formed for the smaller dragon in front of him, seeing that she was just as lost as he was. Exhausted, injured, and hungry, the two dragons made a silent agreement, both of them seeing each other in a new light.

As time passed on, this half-hearted admiration turned into a wary friendship; both had been forgotten in the boneyard, with no family to call their own... except for each other. Days turned to weeks, weeks turned to months, and eventually, the stone that surrounded Cassius's heart crumbled. As more and more dragons appeared in the Abiding Boneyard, both hatchlings and dragons alike, his cave became larger and warmer. No longer was Cassius cold and unforgiving. The angry revenge in his heart was soon forgotten, replaced by a promise. He would ensure that no dragon would live the childhood he did. No dragon would suffer in the Boneyards anymore. And for as long as Cassius would remember, his future would be one of peace and hope.
