Alistair was a magic prodigy, having mastered magic that was far too complicated for him at a rather young age. He seemed to be glowing with power in every step he took, and his parents praised him greatly. When he was an older teenager, his parents decided to enroll him in Bismuth, College for the Arcane. He soared through classes, and eventually ended up as the mentee of Azkeel, a renowned master of magic and anything arcane, as well as any magic to do with rocks, she was also quite close to the founder of the College, Iroh.

Everything was going well, until one day, in the middle of an experiment, Alistair had suddenly keeled over for no discernible reason. Azkeel rushed to his aid, but what she had found had horrified her.

As it turned out, the reason he succeeded at magic so often was because he had been imbued with some sort of power as a child, but this power was slowly killing him from the inside-out. It was dangerous, and Azkeel had never seen anything quite like it before.

She put Alistair under a protective ward, where he would be deep in a sleep, but the power was halted, so its spread across his body stopped temporarily. Azkeel asked for answers all around the College, going so far as to ask Iroh herself for ways to save her mentee. But as she asked, a certain fae had caught wind of what had occurred.

He had been tasked with rooting out these mysterious powers, but this one seemed to have gone too far already. The College and others encouraging his magical exploits did not help matters, and worsened the disease. So he set out to where Azkeel had sealed Alistair, and planned to give him a swift and merciful death. Unluckily for him, Azkeel entered just as he was about to do the deed, and attacked him.

The struggle ended up waking Alistair, who was confused and disoriented. Azkeel told him to flee, and not even having any strength to cast magic, he flew away.

He quickly informed the College staff of what had happened, but by the time they arrived back to the scene, both Azkeel and the mysterious fae were gone, with the only traces left being that of their magical struggle.

Alistair then left the College, and went out in search of Azkeel, believing that she must be somewhere else in the world...
