Biography
A shadow stirs in the shallows. Swaths of seaweed shift ever-so-slightly as a blue sailfin, invisible to the untrained eye, crests over the edge of a rocky outcrop. The schools of fish winking and undulating in the cerulean light do not see her coming. They never do. Using the emerald fields of seaweed as her cover, Murene slips ever-closer– then strikes! The fish do not even have time to panic. Languid as ever, the skilled Undertide slowly gathers the spoils of her kill. She moves like a floating ribbon through the waves as grains of sand graze her scaly belly. She and her mate, Mora, will eat well tonight. This huntress has an alarmingly high catch rate. Luckily, her only interest is seafood– otherwise dragons who play on the seashore might have something worse than drowning to worry about.
Unlike Mora, with her spiraling, twirling hunting methods, Murene prefers to slowly sneak up on her prey. Her green serpentine body enables her to disguise herself amongst various types of seaweed, while her wings and sailfins match the hues of the water. Mora's approach is about action and movement. Hers is about waiting. The combination of their diverse methods make for the perfect hunting party. The couple engages in a friendly competition whenever they go fishing together. Whoever brings home the heaviest catch is the winner. Once, Murene brought home a three-foot long Hatchetfish! She ate her catch with relish, and the tale of her wrestling with this enormous heavy creature entertained the entire clan.
When it comes to the Shade-touched, Murene has a rather laissez-faire attitude. She has no desire to go out of her way to seek out beasts corrupted by shadow. She’d rather spend her days napping on flat rocks or fishing in the shallows. She finds many interesting specimens up where the sun shines through the waves. Beings of the sea are strange and unnerving, even without the addition of Shade magic. She enjoys observing her prey for some time before the hunt truly begins. This curious Undertide takes notes in her journals about the behaviors and habits of the creatures she finds. Completely by accident, she has become quite the field researcher. Even the clan’s more scientific dragons utilize her meticulous notes. Her descriptions of the regeneration capabilities of the Glowstar are nigh unparalleled. Her tone is more colloquial than professional, but the content itself is spectacular. Murene explains that in order to hunt something, a dragon must truly understand and respect it. This is the true purpose of her zoological musings.
