From the very beginning of Crux's life he had nothing but difficulty. When he hatched, his egg tooth had chipped, making the struggle to live very real. After a pain filled hatching he found that nothing his parents offered him as food was in particular interest to him. It seemed that even if he was starving he couldn't hold down food. He caused his parents nothing but grief and decided that it was for the best for him to leave. Crux did want to be a burden to his father and evoke the rage that he was famous for. So he left.

Crux wandered through the endlessness of the forest. Tripping over every branch and stepping into every puddle. His hair was a tangled mess of sticks and dead leaves. By now Crux had gotten used to this misfortune. He's life was always going to be one filled with difficult misery. He happened to stumble across a dragon couple who looked like they were on a nice picnic. Crux sat hidden away in the bushes watching them. He longed to be happy like they were. If he could just have any ounce of their joy, he would take it.

Something changed in Crux. He felt an untapped power swelling in his chest. He looked at the couple sitting on the ledge, enjoying their picnic. He wanted them to feel his difficulty. His pain. The poor couple never knew what hit them. Within seconds a tree branch fell and destroyed their basket of food. The ring that the male had held went tumbling over the side of the cliff, lost to the forest. Both of the dragons made a hasty exit.

Crux smiled to himself. He went over to the destroyed picnic and picked through the remains. It seemed to him that he was able to push his burden off to others. It was the most fun he had since he could remember. In fact, Crux was not sure if he had ever had fun before. He spent the rest of his day finding dragons to harass and make their lives filled with much more difficulty.

The little veilspun continued to reap chaos and destruction. Who knew that small inconveniences could ruin lives. He watched from afar as a pearlcatcher strode into the glen below. The pearlcatcher was covered in black fungus. He had antlers that sprouted from the top of his head. He was unlike any pearlcatcher that Crux had seen before, however it did not matter, he would feel Crux's pain. Crux's eyes glowed green as his power swelled. After a while nothing happened. The pearlcatcher's head turned directly toward Crux, "You're silly little enchantment holds no power over me."

Crux hissed at the dragon, "You will feel my pain."

"I already have for thousands of lifetimes little one." With a flash, the pearlcatcher had the young veilspun in his claws, "The Being wants to meet you." Crux did not appreciate the look on his captor's face. He tried to wiggle out of the grip but it was iron tight.

Crux learned that the pearlcatcher's name was Corax and that he served a Being of great power. Corax was not friendly, but was willing to teach. He showed the little veilspun how he could grow his power and use it to its fullest potential. Crux was...grateful? He wasn't sure if that was the correct word but under Coax's mentorship Crux's power grew. He caused pain for so many other dragons and in turn gave himself immense joy.
