Thesis - what should we title this report?

Hatchling Observations and Recommendations: Clutch 2, File 1.

Yes, good. What do we write first?

That Stitches has produced for us three children: one male, two females. Each appears to be healthy and strong. We are...proud.

Are we?

Yes.

What next? Do we report their names or our observations first?

The names will not make sense without our notes. We have closely examined our new offspring for signs of soul divergence or rare magical capabilities, such as those possessed by Supernova. All questions related to souls remain inconclusive. However, our instruments have calculated that two of three have unique arcane abilities.

Which ones?

The boy, Query (whose gift is yet to be determined) and the elder daughter, Conundrum (whose powers also remain a mystery). The names of these children reflect our inconclusive findings.

And the third? What do we say of her?

The third child appears to have absolutely no magical abilities whatsoever. While initially disappointing, we believe that her case also presents us with an opportunity. While performing experiments with Supernova, we struggled to make sense of her special powers, in part because she was an only child and her abilities were so different from her mother and each other Living Doll.

Supernova left us with a question: is our research lagging because our experiment has no controls?

Our answer to that is yes. And that is exactly why our giftless daughter is in fact such a boon: she is our perfect point of comparison. Her name is therefore Control.

What do we recommend Dr. Vesalius do with our children?

Query and Conundrum would be of most use in other lairs. We might introduce them as welcome gifts to a clan in need - they could go unsuspected for as much time as needed to ensure they are poised to strike at any opportunity. Their departure would also allow us to determine whether or not our Headquarters' environment is conducive to the development of raw magical powers. It would be ideal (while not entirely necessary) for Query and Conundrum to be sent to clans in two different parts of Sorneith so that we might compare how different flight domains might strengthen or lessen different magical abilities.

And Control?

She should remain with us. We are finally making headway with our research into Supernova's abilities - so much so that it appears other groups have taken notice. Control's comparative lack of talent has been extremely useful to our work. Without her, our experiments may begin to stall once again. However, we suspect she may begin to resist our work if she is not assigned a proper role beyond experimental subject.

Might she also be trained as an instructor alongside Doubt?

That role would give her enough satisfaction to avoid building resentment against the Haunted. It would also allow us to take full advantage of Control's non-magical talents. She is headstrong and bright; Query and Conundrum complain that she is "bossy." We believe she will be an asset to our training team with time.
