Biography
▬▬ BALLAD, Medic ▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬ ♢♢♢ The Silver Magistratus | Clan Lore • A small and nervous skydancer who follows Areciel around. Are they friends? Unknown. • Very low self esteem and image of self. He thinks of the world as beautiful, and considers himself to be worth little in the face of that beauty. He considers Areciel to be a shining star and thus follows him without question. • A wonderful medic, and will fly headlong into battles to heal his friends - jarringly different than the version of him that most dragons see. |

Ballad grew up odd. His parents were constantly wandering. They never stayed for long, and Ballad never really formed any attachments outside of them. They weren’t close, either. Ballad loved his parents, but they were usually more distant than close — always wandering, always preparing, never having enough time to spend time with him — and didn’t really seem to notice his loneliness. So Ballad grew to do things by himself, and he learned to detach from the world around him. He dreamed of a day when he could finally sit down with his parents, and spill everything that he had kept inside his chest for the longest time, and maybe things would finally change... And then they died in a fire, and Ballad never got to bring it up with them... and Ballad was all alone. Permanently, this time. |
Ballad had thought the world to be ugly at first. A cruel, mocking world that shunned the unfortunate and the weak. He was bitter. He was helpless... But he saw strangers helping other strangers. He saw injured beings given a place to rest and treated well. He saw children being adopted into loving homes and beings gathering together to remove children from neglectful homes. He saw love and care and beauty in the world around him, and he realized something.
It wasn’t that the world was ugly. It was natural and even beautiful at times. It was just that he didn’t really matter in the face of it. Beautiful things deserve beautiful things in turn. He wasn’t beautiful, so of course nobody helped him.
Ballad lived like that for a few more years. Occasionally, some kindness would be given to him, but they were always temporary. Fleeting.
Until Areciel.
|
Areciel, who offered him a place to stay. Areciel, who helped him realize his talent for being a medic. Areciel, who was kind and beautiful and who shone like a star, so close yet so far out of reach at the same time. Of course Ballad would latch onto the first living being that gave him constant affection and attention after his parents died. Of course he would follow him everywhere. He grew up. He made some friends, accepting their affection and kindness and everything else they were willing to give, and he gave back his all in return. He still stayed by Areciel’s side. Areciel had changed by now, different in ways Ballad didn’t know about. They weren’t friends. Ballad didn’t know what Areciel truly thought of him, despite his kindness towards him. Was he a pet to take care of? Was he a stray that he had picked up and who was unfortunately sticking close to his side? Was he something else? He didn’t know. He didn’t dare ask. But what mattered was that he let Ballad follow him everywhere and stay by his side, and that was enough... It had to be enough. |
