______ The son of two commoners from the Lightweaver’s kingdom, Cygnus was self-reliant in the way that all forgotten hatchlings are. Did he need therapy? Most likely. Would he ever get it? Most certainly not. Where other dragons would have gone bitter to the world, Cygnus became borderline obsessed with making the best out of his life. He lived in the Emperor’s Wake for longer than most, his young and lithe form skilled in hiding from monsters and danger. By the time he was a teenager, he’d become far too used to isolation. Some might call him crazy. He read the stages of the moon and the stars to see into the future. Burning unique and possibly illegal foliage from the landscape probably helped as well. When he had a vision of a scattered village outside Hewn City being viciously attacked by Thunderstomps, he knew his days of independence must be put on hold. He flew, faster than he ever had before, to save the innocent dragons before the slaughter. Tragically, when he arrived—in the middle of the night—and began to screech wildly about killers and grabbing dragons out of their beds, Cygnus was not too well received.
______ He was essentially chased out of the village by every single dragon that lived within a five-mile radius.
______ After he escaped that disaster, he decided to take a break from the visions. Cygnus sought to travel further than he ever had before. Quickly realizing that exercise would never be his strong suit, he settled down in the realm of the Shadowbinder, more comfortable with gloom than ever before. For three months, he pushed away any hint of prophecy. It was terribly difficult. He had relied upon his visions as a way of dealing with his past, or rather, distracting himself from it. When they were gone, Cygnus no longer dreamt of a colorful future but instead a haunting memory.
______ He didn’t sleep, for some time. When he cracked and slipped into unconsciousness, the prophecy that struck him would remain lodged in his mind for years.
______ Cygnus never told any other dragon what he saw, but the coatl somehow found Forras—a fae that was usually never found unless she chose to be—and convinced her to let him join the den.
______ Cygnus is friendly and incredibly loyal. Occasionally, his well-intentioned advice will misfire badly, but he apologizes and tries to be better next time. His tunnel vision—both figuratively and literally—blinds him to hunger and health. Forras remains cautious but curious about one of the truest prophets she’s ever seen, but Cygnus pays no mind to her wariness.
