Yuu has always known struggles. It has always followed her—from hatching alone in the the harshest territories in all of Sornieth, to proving herself worthy of setting out from under the care of the Icewarden’s children, to witnessing the massacre and destruction of the Beastclans upon fellow dragons, and, most recently, struggling to lead her Clan to prosperity and security.

In another world, Yuu might not have been so small. She wouldn’t be only as big as a third of an imperial dragonet. She wouldn’t have watched her loved ones grow and grow until they towered over her. She wouldn’t have to be protected if she were just…bigger. Yuu worries about this a lot. She’s willing to give everything she has for her clan, for her family, but what if her everything isn’t enough for them? Having to grow up too soon has left Yuu all too aware of the crushing weight of her duties. Is she strong enough? Wise enough? Kind enough? And yet she doesn’t realize her own strengths—her compassion and tenacity and her…bravery. For one so small, Yuu’s presence alone is enough to bring a sense of calm and reassurance to her clan. Yuu’s dedication to her clan is unmatched—this goes unquestioned by her clanmates.

Still, Yuu has dreams and longings of her own, like anyone else. She takes great joy in taking care of her clanmates, but deep down, Yuu wishes for her own family. Most of her dragonets were exalted in service to the Icewarden to fight for the entirety of the Ice Flight, leaving only her beloved Imoen. Yuu wishes she could be more of a mother to Imoen, instead of spending all her time managing the resources and condition of the clan. Secretly, she wishes she could start over and be a happy family with her mate, Glydan, and Imoen. One day, Yuu reflects, when Polaris is ready to lead the clan in her place, she will have time to love her family.

Yuu was born alone, a single egg abandoned in the forests of the Southern Icefield. She was found by the Gaolers, who, under the Icewarden, train Yuu in the hopes of eventually raising a successful clan to defend the Southern Icefields. When Yuu sets out for the first time, she is given shelter by a nearby clan of the Ice flight. However, in the night, the clan was attacked by hostile Beastclan warriors and was consequently destroyed. With two newborn dragonets in tow, Yuu manages to escape the massacre with the children
